5.0 out of 5 stars Great saw
I used to think all hack saws were the same, until I ran across this little beauty. The tension adjustment is perfect. I have a tendency to over tighten my blades, which warps and ruins them. This saw just clicks the blade into place at just the right tension.

3.0 out of 5 stars This was indeed a splendid hacksaw
So a person might wonder about the 3-star rating I've given it. That is about the only way I have of protesting the piece-of-trash blade some idiot manager at Dewalt shipped out with my saw.

Very comfortable to hold, easy to control, with a nice guard to keep you from getting hurt.

To top it all off, there is storage for blades inside the frame, so I actually have a chance of finding the blades I bought when it comes time to use the saw.

I really like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW this is a nice hack saw!, September 12, 2006
This review is from: DEWALT DW3970 12-Inch High Tension Hack Saw Frame (Tools & Home Improvement)
I picked this saw up at my local Farm & Fleet store for about $17. After taking it home and performing about a dozen test cuts in wood, metal, and plastic I felt it was a pretty good saw. Now that I have used it for over a year for various home improvement jobs I am here to say that this is a great saw. The blade changing/tensioning mechanism is fast and simple and it is easy to use. The frame is strong, the grips are very comfortable, and the DeWalt blade that came with the saw is good and sharp. I had no problem cutting any of the materials I threw at this thing. I also feel that the hand guard is a good idea (it protects your hand at that point of "breakthrough" in the end of a cut).

I highly recommend this item to anyone with a need for a quality hacksaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TOOL, January 1, 2010

i work using hacksaw mostly everyday. in the past i purchased a few hacksaws, at first they tend to hold the blades straight but as times pass with the use of them they bend the blades and eventually the teeth keep breaking. I've only been using this for 1 week and i still have the same blade. i would have to be changing blades everyday or two with my old hacksaw. but with this beast my blades last longer. this hacksaw feels very comfortable. changing blades is very easy even a 4 yr old could do it. the guys at work love the hacksaw, its the best hacksaw they say they've used in decades of working construction. i highly recommend it n its well worth the price.

Throw away your old ones and quickly back away - to get one of these. There's little to say that isn't in the product description - it does what you expect it to do and it does it very, very well.

You can also drop your gym membership. This puppy is heavy. Saw some pipe to build up your biceps.

Strong & solid. This saw doesn't flex much at all. The handle is a little too large for my liking. It would be nice if it was slightly slimmer. I've got pretty big hands, but I found my right hand a little stiff after cutting through a metal tube. Also, the blade it comes with isn't very good. But, I wasn't expecting it to come with a blade at all. So, I suppose I can't really complain about a free blade, now can I?

So a person might wonder about the 3-star rating I've given it. That is about the only way I have of protesting the piece-of-trash blade some idiot manager at Dewalt shipped out with my saw.

Though I already had a much cheaper "tension" hacksaw, I was fiddling with the new one to get a feel for using it. After I took out the blade, I was quite unable to get it back in place without using some kind of mechanical vise. After a while it dawned on me to try an old blade from the workshop in the garage. When it dropped into place with ease, I compared the two blades. The pin holes in the new blade were almost 2 mm out of position. Were all Dewalt blades this way? I dug out the package of ten new blades I'd ordered with the saw and they were all OK.

This fine saw was almost returned to Amazon because the aforementioned Dewalt idiot was disposing of some seriously out-of-spec hacksaw blades by shipping them with new saws.

After using several cheap hacksaws, I finally got this one. Wow, what a difference. You do get what you pay for.

This saw is worth the extra money. It is easy to change blades and the two hand grip is very effective. Replacement 12 inch blades are a little harder to find and a bit more expensive but it is worth the cost to use this saw.

I had high expectations for this hacksaw and it impressed me on all of them. It is very sturdy saw and is able to tear through projects they used to take a lot of strokes before. I haven't changed the blade yet but it does look very easy to change. The overall feel of the saw is that it is very solid and very capable to tackle the toughest of projects. I recommend this on to any of my friends and I'm not disappointed at all in my purchase.
