Good - within its breed,

This is the third finishing sander I've owned (I got it free when I bought my compound miter saw) and of the three its the best in terms of sanding quality and noise. However, I'd go with a random orbit sander to get better quality. My biggest complaint is that the dust attachment (DW4111) comes separately (and is not carried by very many suppliers, including Amazon). The dust bag that comes with their random orbit sander pulls apart and fits a standard 2 1/2 inch dust hose. Why couldn't they do that with this one?

This tool does a great job at what it is designed to do - finishing sanding. An excellent feature is that you can use any brand or type of paper. The dust collection bag keep things neat, my only complaint is that the bag is easy to knock off. Overall though, this tool is well balanced and very easy to handle.

Just started using this sander and it works pretty well. The switch that everyone complains about is not a big problem once you realize that it is not a push button under the small rubber cover, but a little toggle switch. DELIBERATELY depressing the right side of the rubber cover always turned the sander on, and depressing the left side always turned it off. No problems with the sander turning itself on or off.The dust collection bag, on the other hand, didn't collect much dust as some people claim, though it never fell off either, as others claim. The sander was very comfortable to use and quickly gave a very smooth finish. This is what you are looking for in a palm sander, right?

This was the first power sander that I bought and I've been generally pleased with it. I can get an incredibly smooth finish with it and it manages to collect most (but not all) of it's dust. I also like the fact that it uses standard sanding paper -- no need for special paper, some of which can get quite expensive.I should point out that this is truly a finishing sander. I wrongly thought I could just put lower grit sandpaper on it and use it for more aggressive sanding. Not so. But it does a great job at what it was designed for -- very fine sanding.

This is why the pros pick DeWalt,

Very easy to use and durable. The control is great and the vaccuum collects more than it's share of dust (though tack rags should not be tossed). A great value.

This little tool sands well and gets into tight spots, but it runs into trouble if your holding it horizontally (sanding baseboard, etc.). The dust bag immediately lets go and falls to the floor. It's more of an irritant that a major problem as the dust collection isn't that great anyway. For the money, it's a pretty good sander and unlike the Makita model, it does hold up.

I've had this sander for years and put it through more abuse than I'd like to admit and it is still going strong. It has been dropped, used for several hours non stop, and worked nearly to death. It seems to take abuse and ask for more. The brushes probably need to be replaced and the bearings might be on their last legs but the machine still works without a problem. The dust bag now falls off and the cord is showing signs of cracking, but this is hardly a complaint as years of hard use will cause this in any tool. DeWalt is an excellent brand and this sander is no exception. I can only say good things about this tool and recommend it highly.

Great little brute, Ive tried to stall it out but it just wouldn't stop. It handles 36Grit with no problem. The only drawback is the dust it creates is more than that little bag is going to hold. Get the the sweeper attachment part #DW4111 worth the money if your going to use this in the house or shop. that is why I give it a 4 star. Amazon.com should sell the attachment !!!! hint.

ON OR OFF???? HARD TO TELL....,

I love this little sander and have used it extensively over the past 6 months on 7 different projects. It floats nicely over the surface if one is applying light pressure. Conversely, if one applies heavier pressure, it is difficult to bog down. The motor has plenty of power, which enables the removal of a large quantity of material if used with a coarser grade of sandpaper. Additionally, I have had no trouble in producing glass smooth finishes on both hard and soft species of wood (pine, poplar, oak and birch) using 60, 100, 150 and 220 grit sandpaper. The hook and loop system is easy to use and the 1/4 sheet size paper fits exactly as it should and it does a good job of holding the sandpaper in proper position. The paper can easily be changed in 1 minute or less. The case is very well designed. It is durable and just the right size. In moments of clumsiness, I have dropped it twice and the case and sander survived without a scratch. I have not used the bag that comes with the kit, so I won't comment on it. I hesitate to give this product 5 stars because of the on/off switch. It is rubber covered, which makes it DIFFICULT to use. If you turn it off, it will turn itself back on and the reverse is also true. It is difficult to tell if it is fully turned on or off. I once plugged it in (believing the sander to be turned off) only to have it actually be on and the sander went flying off of the workbench onto the floor, jerking the cord out of the socket in the process. I've never seen an on off switch THIS DIFFICULT to use! However, it's not a major problem, just a nuisance. I would not let it deter me in purchasing this tool again. Other than the switch, I love this tool and have no reservations in giving it a a very good recommendation. If DeWalt would improve the on/off switch, this is a definate 5 star product.

Easy to grip and handle. Low on vibration and noise. Lets you get right up next to areas you don't want sanded with full sanding capability to the very edge. Beats anything I've owned so far for controllability and ability to get in tight corners and edge sand on fine work. The ONLY complaint I've got is with the dust collection system. The bag tends to jump off on anything you're doing that isn't flat and horizontal. And a vacuum attachment would be greatly appreciated, too. But, I'd buy it again, even with that shortcoming. |
