The insert fits fine but the accompaning instructions point out a minor problem not addressed with the original DW744 instructions: You cannot put a full 13/16" dado stack on the arbor and still use the large outside washer which acts as somewhat of a blade stabilizer. You might get a 3/4" stack on using the washer and lock nut, but to use the extra chipper(s) you'll have to secure it with only the lock nut (or an aftermarket thinner washer/stabilizer). Probably not a big deal but DW could have easily solved the problem with a little more thought in their engineering process regarding the arbor length.

Works perfect with the DW744.

My DW744 manual says to replace the outside washer with the inside washer and use the arbor nut only. Another reviewer had a problem fitting a full size dado with both washers. Check your DW744 book. Dewalt may have changed there manual, so a call to Dewalt will get you a new manual.

Well, I was holding off on buying this dado insert until I saw the one with the handy locking knob, as seen in the left photo on the items' page. There was another image showing the plate without the handy knob, and can you guess which one I got? Right- the one I didn't want. It's not a huge deal, I just hate it when they cannot accurately represent the items, and the part numbers are the same. One just happens to be a newer design I suppose. I'll live with it since it is for my portable and little used DeWalt DW744 which is a wonderful saw, and I have used some of the biggest and best in the industry. So just know that you will probably not get the one with the handy locking knob! If you do- let me know so I can really gripe them out.

The item pictured is for the newer Dewalt 744 table saw which is what i have and which is the product I wanted. What they send you is the Dado throat piece for the older model saw. After several communications with Amazon customer service I am convinced they just dont know what they are doing. Dont buy this item if you have the newer saw. IT WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE THEY WILL SEND YOU THE WRONG ONE

The picture is not what you get. Dewalt has not got the new style out on the market yet but they are coming soon. If you want this product wait a few more months.....actually this company sent me the wrong product all together but did take it back for and gave me a full refund

There are two versions of this part - DeWalt's bad! Type 1 does NOT have a black twist lock on the face of the plate and will not correctly fit the DW744 saw. You want the Type 2 version which does have the black twist lock if you have a DW744 saw of recent (2/2011) vintage. I don't know how to request each specific type via Amazon. March 22 - I've now had to return this item 3 times, the last time after a CSR assured me that they had corrected the problem and reordered it for me but apparently its still not right yet. Each time the part without the black lock arrived (see alternate picture of the Type 1 part without the lock from Kwan Hongladarom). Amazon has now placed a warning on this item while they sort it out, hopefully.

I have an older DW744 (about 10 years old) and the throat plate fits fine and works perfectly well. Of course it's just a piece of metal shaped like the standard throat plate, only with a larger blade opening. As with some of the other reviewers the product I received did not have the plastic locking knob as pictured but rather the screw head. No big deal as the extra few seconds to lock it with a screwdriver is not significant compared to the rest of my setup time.

THERES NOT A WHOLE LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS DADO THROAT PLATE. ITS MADE TO FIT IN THE DW744 TABLE SAW AND WORKS WELL. I DON'T HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS.

I have a DW744X about 20 months old with both the available Dewalt inserts.
First thing I did was replace the original insert with the Betterly Tru-Cut insert system but did use the Dewalt Dado insert for about 6 months until I started noticing that it was bowing in the middle. The dado insert was always stored upside down so that it would lay perfectly flat in the drawer.
Rather than replace the insert each time in the Betterly Tru-Cut insert system I decided to buy a second Betterly Tru-Cut insert system which is setup for dado cuts.
And that is the fastest and best way to go ... Betterly Tru-Cut insert system has remained perfectly flat to this day and the only way to go.
Betterly Tru-Cut insert system is well worth the money.

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I'm sure it will work with out any problems. Delivery was prompt and on time.
