200+ Pounds Moves Around Real Easy,
This review is from: DEWALT DW7460 Mobile Base (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you have any intention of moving your DW 746 table saw (which weighs approximately 200 pounds and needs two people to move it, particularly when the fence and support tables are attached) around your work area, then this mobile base verges on mandatory. With it, I can move the table saw around using only one foot. The mobile base is a hefty 29 pounds and is solidly milled and put together. Assembly takes no more than a leisurely 20 minutes, which is aided by DeWalt's explicitly detailed instructions. Tall sides on the mobile base frame as well as pre-drilled holes to attach the saw to the frame ensure the stability of the saw when moving it or when in use. Large wheels provide further ease of mobility. A key feature of this base is the lever at the front which permits raising of the saw thereby facilitating moving it around your work area. When you use the foot lever to lower the saw, it sets the saw down flat on all four sides. In addition, DeWalt provides leveling feet which enable you to raise or lower the sides of the saw to accomodate uneven work floors. In summary, this is an extremely well-designed and easily assembled product that is an absolute must if you have any intention of moving this saw around in your workspace. I couldn't do without it. One caveat, if you have the 52 inch fence with the outfeed table, you will need to disconnect it before moving the saw.

Dewalts on a Roll,
By wamp66 (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DEWALT DW7460 Mobile Base (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Dewalt DW746 table saw is definitely a heavy beast. The mass of its internal components is one of the reasons why this is the finest saw in its class. It's also the reason why, if you have limited space in your shop, you will need an easy way to maneuver this saw around. You could go with an HTC base (like I did for my Jet 6" jointer), but the HTC base will not give you the performance you would want for something as heavy as this saw. The Dewalt mobile base is very sturdy and smooth. Although it has a wide stance, the three-wheel design allows for extreme maneuverability in tight spaces while remaining stable at all times. Instructions were clear, assembly is a snap and the kit has everything you need to be up and rolling (no user-supplied wooden rails like the Delta base). The lift pedal is well designed, but it does tend to drop the saw with a jolt if you are not careful. If you guide the pedal down gradually with your foot as the saw is lowered, you will have no problem. I have found this to be true of all mobile bases. The casters are made of solid material, but are soft enough to roll over obstructions without skidding or becoming stuck. The rest of the base is constructed of solid steel and painted to match the saw. Once you get this base on your saw, you will find it glides with ease wherever you desire. You will not be disappointed. I recommend that you install this base on the saw before the saw has been fully assembled, if possible. As I said before, this is a heavy beast.

Safer, more convenient operation.,

If you are working in your garage get the mobile base. I got one, and it is awesome. It really helps having the saw be a bit lighter than the cabinet saws, but the base makes it that much more versatile. If you are cutting something large you can push it into the middle of the garage for much safer operation. I wouldn't do without it, and it makes me want more for all my other machines.Assembly was very easy, but you might want someone there to help you put the saw on the base. It would be very difficult to do it alone. I had my brother help. The operation is quite simple as well. My only complaint about it is that you have to be careful when you lower the saw. It can slam down on the floor if you don't take care to lower it slowly.

I first bought a universal base from another manufacturer for my dw746 because it was about half the price of this one, big mistake. After working with it for over 3 hours I never was able to get the saw stable. Returned it and bought the Dewalt base. I had it assembled and the saw on it in under an hour. It is rock solid yet moves the saw around with ease. This is a really great base.

Required Accessory For Small Workshops,

The DeWalt mobile base for the DW746 is truely a required accessory for small workshops. The installation was very easy but it does require 2 people to lift the saw into the base. Don't try to do this alone. I have limited space in my workshop and I need to move the saw out of the way when it's not being used. The mobile base is solid and makes moving the saw an extremely easy task. Be careful setting the saw down - it does come down hard but once it is down the saw sits solidly on the floor.

This is not an option, it is a necessity!,

At the time I bought my DW746 table saw Amazon was offering this base as an added bonus (for the same price). If I had to order this thing separately, I probably would have tried to make something less expensive work for me. I am so glad that I have this base instead!
What I like about this product: 1. This thing is STOUT. The construction of this base is very heavy duty. Although my DW746 is a heavy beast, I am sure the base would handle much more weight than I am throwing on it with this saw. 2. The lift pedal mechanism works very smoothly. Another reviewer describes this base as having a tendency to 'drop' the saw when you are lowering the foot pedal. I noticed the same thing on the demo model I looked at in a Woodcraft store. Mine however does NOT seem to do this yet. I don't know if DeWalt tweaked it to fix the problem or I just got lucky... 3. I appreciate the fact that this base allows you to bolt the legs of the saw right to it - giving the saw cabinet even more stiffness and strength. 4. Once you have depressed the foot pedal, this thing smoothly and easily rolls the saw wherever you want it. Tight turns and small debris on the floor do not seem to pose a problem for this base. What I don't like: 1. The price. Actually mine was included in a package deal, so I have no complaints. However, if I had to go buy the thing I would be chafing at the price. A PIECE OF ADVICE: If you buy this at the same time as you buy the DW746 saw remember this. The saw is shipped upside down in the crate. Assemble the base and attach it to the saw legs BEFORE you turn the saw right side up. Otherwise it is a real bear for two people to set the saw on the base while trying to line-up the bolts that attach legs to base... Overall observations: This is a very high quality product that you really will need and use all of the time if you buy it. I cannot say that you will be happy with the price tag, but once you make the investment you will never regret owning this accessory!

The Dewalt mobile base was out of stock, everywhere, when I bought my DW746. In my small basement shop I need all the large machines to be mobile, so even though I know better I bought a "universal base" and the fight was on. After a couple of months of trying to make it work, I decided that enough was enough and ordered the Dewalt base. Had to wait 2 weeks but it finally arrived. Assembly was so easy I was sure I had missed something, spent another 20 minutes double checking everything. Got my neighbor to help me lift the saw off the old base and on to the new one. The saw is now easy, I do mean easy, to manuever and is solid as a rock once its set down in its operating position. No chance of it coming off the base as it is solidly bolted down. In the down position it has a lower profile and is LEVEL. With the universal base if you didnt apply pressure to the mobile base when moving the saw, there was a good chance the saw would slip off one of the rails. With the Dewalt base this can't happen, takes one hand on the saw to move it around and place it just where ya need it. This is a great addition to my saw and I only regret waiting so long to get it.

The DW7460 Mobile base is a must have if you plan on moving this saw around. I have a garage workshop and need to frequently move my DW746 around to get the cars in. 1) I found that assembly of the mobile base was easy and that the saw fits on top well. 2) The lifter mechanism is simple to operate. 3) The base is very stable in both the mobile and stationary positions.

HAT'S OFF TO DEWALT. A FINE BASE FOR MY 760 TABLE SAW. ORDERED FROM AMAZON, IT CAME IN FINE COND. VERY WELL PAKAGED FROM DEWALT. A GREAT THOUGHT OUT DESIGN. FAR BETTER THAN SOME OF MY HTC BASES, & A MUST FOR PORTABILITY. THE THREE WHEEL DESIGN MAKES TURNING THIS SAW A BREEZE IN ANY DIRECTION. A MUST FOR SMALL SHOP'S LIKE OUR'S. ANOTHER NICE FEATURE IS THIS BASE BOLT'S TO THE SAW MAKING IT EVEN MORE STABLE.

I purchased the mobile base with my new table saw. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the base and the quality of the instructions. Setting up the base was very easy, except that lifting the table saw in place can be difficult. I'm a big guy and was able to do it myself, but it would have been easier if I had a friend or two helping. The base bolts to the table saw so it is firmly connected. In use the base rolls very freely and I have no problem manuevering it around my shop/garage. I've used other mobile bases for other tools in my shop and this base is as good or better than any of them.
