5.0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Vehicle Charger -- Must have for punch outs
This product is great for anyone that is always on the go and does not have access to an electrical outlet to plug in a battery charger. I use it everyday while performing a/c punchouts. I have owned it for 3 years and the only thing that I have found to be concerned about is overheating the charger and batteries on hot summer days.

3.0 out of 5 stars DON'T USE A MODIFIED SINE WAVE INVERTER INSTEAD
One of the reviews here suggests using a modified sine wave inverter such as the Xantrex sold here at Amazon. If you read the inverter owner's manual or do a quick Internet search you will see that use of an AC Dewalt (and some other cordless tool chargers) together with a modified sine wave inverter will dramatically shorten the life of your charger. Don't do it...

As for this product, it works as advertised. Why only 3 stars? 2 reasons: A) At the current price this item really is overpriced for what you get; B)The (50% less costly) AC charger offers "Tune Up" mode, which extends battery life. But if you have no access to AC power this is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars dewalt 12v vehicle charger, August 30, 2002

This review is from: DEWALT DW9109 7.2-Volt to 18-Volt Pod-Style Vehicle Plug-In 1-Hour Battery Charger (Tools & Home Improvement)
I used the 18v tools to build an entire remote cabin where there was no regular electricity. The vehicle charger works great connected to a 12 volt solar power system.

I'm remodelling in the evenings and weekends at a site with no power. More than once I've had to stop early because I was about to drain my Dewalt batteries completely. Having this buys me about another hour each week in productive time. You still have to plan your usage when using a high-drain item like a saw, but the added flexibility is still worth it. The only downside is that, to be safe, you need to run your vehicle for a few minutes to ensure that the charger doesn't drain your truck battery. Dewalt advises no more than two charges between starts. That will do for most of my evening efforts anyway, but there are some reading this who will have to be careful. In any event, this gives me much more flexibility when working at an inconvenient site - highly recommended.

I was given one of these by work. Too bad I have to return it if I leave. Everyone that has any type of DeWalt tool should have this charger.

This review is from: DEWALT DW9109 7.2-Volt to 18-Volt Pod-Style Vehicle Plug-In 1-Hour Battery Charger (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm pleased with the purchase of this product because I can use it while I am going down the road and not fusing with getting out my plug in unit every time I get out on a job.

5.0 out of 5 stars On The Road Charging!, April 5, 2008

This is just what I needed to keep me going. I am often off-road and near no AC power source. But having 2 Optima Yellow Tops in my truck, DC charging is no problem. For field repairs, my tools include the Dewalt Gooseneck flashlight, Reciprocating Saw, Hammerdrill and Circular Saw. All run on the 18V XRP batteries. My old NiCad XRP's were on there last legs, so I also got the new NiMH 18V XRP batteries to power everything. Great purchases, all!

Product is durable and lives up to the Dewalt name that contractors expect. However, the product is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for here, but the charger is perfect for contractors and maintenance personnel that work in sites where there is no power for a convential a/c powered charger. Caution!! don't use this charger more than twice at a time for your 18 volt batteries without starting your vehicle, otherwise you'll have to get a jump start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Car charger for battery pack, January 24, 2008
This review is from: DEWALT DW9109 7.2-Volt to 18-Volt Pod-Style Vehicle Plug-In 1-Hour Battery Charger (Tools & Home Improvement)
This charger is great. I can charge my battery while out on the road, as I use my 18v Dewalt Vacuum quite a bit, and I need a strong charge. Excellent product.
