Just got this ahead of small job (175 sqft) room, installing 2 1/2" per-finished hardwood oak planks. After renting for years I finally decided to buy this. I used to do smaller floor sqft areas, but for past 2yrs I've done more larger areas. Have always been looking, but couldn't justify spending $450 - 600 for something I may use only a few times a year. And I can rent for about $35/day. It's not about being cheap, I spend good money on quality tools, and get them repaired and serviced as well. It is always an investment in my business that will make me money.
I like the fact it is a dual fastner tool. Uses staples or nails (cleats). I also like that it's a bit lighter than most that I have used which are steel. This one is all aluminum. Additionally I REALLY like the fact I don't have to hold a "trigger" down like the Bostitch one featured as rental. It takes 16ga. Cleats (pkg states 15.5ga) but my 16's worked fine. Keep the pressure relatively low, I was fine at about 80-85psi, just give it a good "whack". Comes with 3 depth plates, 3/4", 5/8" ,1/2", 4 Allen keys, oil, and a mallet.

As far as durability and longevity, I can't say yet. It is made in Taiwan, but for the yearly usage I think it should be fine, with occasional maintenance. This product was just introduced in jan 2013. Time will tell. I can't wait until I do a wood porch with T&G planks.

I am a licensed general contractor. I use pneumatic tools every day this tool came ready to use out of the box we have only used it once but it worked flawlessly ,I had priced other brands at the local big box stores, they were double the price.I'm still making it a policy to buy all the tools I can off Amazon and most of my tools are DeWalt and I have been extremely happy with them the performance and reliability

The nail gun worked great! This was the first hardwood floor (330 sq. ft.) I installed and the floor nailer worked without any trouble, as long as I aligned it correctly on the board. I took my time in the beginning and got the hang of it after a few boards. I would recommend this floor nailer for a first timer. Used a small three-quarter (3/4) hp compressor with 2.0 scfm at 90 psi without any trouble. But, was only laying about 20 square feet per hour at my peak performance. Used 2000 nails not counting the start and finish rows where the nailer could not be used.

I like the tool a lot. It operated with the same level of quality that I have come to know with all of my Dewalt tools. The only issue that I had with it was that it started to leak air slightly near the end of the first project so I will need to return it for a new one, but I would not hesitate to stick with the same floor nailer.

I couldn't be happier with this nailer. I installed almost 400 sq feet of solid oak hardwood floors (Bruce CB218 Dundee Strip) over two days. I used right around 3000 Bostitch FLN-200 L-Cleats without a single jam or misfire. This tool worked best with my material at around 70psi. A simple pancake compressor was more than capable of keeping this tool going full time. It was truly oil and go. I did add a few extra drops of oil every 500 cleats or so to keep the piston and seals well lubricated. I do recommend taking your time if you are working with pre-finished flooring. The foot pad is a non-marring plastic but there is some metal to wood contact with the edge of your flooring and nailer. I did manage to scratch one or two pieces during the install, but mostly due to fatigue. I have rented the Bostitch flooring nailer in the past and can say with great certainty that I like this one better! Great job, Dewalt.

We bought this to help with a flooring project to re-do our steps and landing. For the price this does exactly what we want it to - we didn't want to purchase a really expensive flooring tool for a 8x10' landing and this as well as the more expensive ones. The only thing we wish it came with was a carrying case but that would probably have driven the price up.

Using the tool is dummy proof. You snug it up against the board and then hit it with the provided mallet. When you hit the tool to nail the board in, it sucks up any small gaps caused by the wood being bowed or warped. Very easy for both my husband and I to just pick up and use. Note, when you are close to the wall you won't be able to use the tool as the piece that holds the nails sticks out.

I'll preface this by saying I have no experience with any other options/models.

I bought this for installing maple flooring in our house. I considered renting, but figure that we'd be doing the work bit by bit in the free hours in the evening and renting would end up costing more. I have a slew of other Dewalt tools and really haven't had a bad experience with any (some are great, some are fine). Since the price was comparable to other flooring nailers, I chose this one based on brand loyalty. It's easy to use, easy to load, doesn't misfire (bought the 16g Bostitch L-cleats) and does a nice job of pre-punching the tongue to avoid splitting. It takes a pretty good whack with the included rubber mallet, but even my 105-lb wife has no problems operating it. The non-marring base seems to be doing the trick, we haven't had any accidental scrapes in the finish.

I assume this is standard, but the fire mechanism is perfectly coordinated so the impact of the hammer both pushes the boards that extra bit together and nails them in that state. As such, you get a bit of a "zipper" effect as you work across the length of a slightly bowed board.

The one tricky thing is that you can't use it once your flooring gets to within 16" of a wall because there's no space to swing the mallet. If other nailers solve this issue, consider this a 4-star review.
