i am not sure as to how popular this cd has been in the states, but it being a french record, i don't doubt that many haven't heard much about it. however, i have to say this is her best work ever. celine personally thinks so herself, and i have to say i agree with her completely on this one... "pour que tu m'aimes encore" is her classic song, one which everyone, from 4 year old kids to 65 year old women were singing along to, knowing every single word of it when it hit big in europe... she also sings a song to her dear Karine who if i believe passed away in her arms of cystic fibrosis when she was just 12 years old [i apologize for any inaccuracy if it is the case]... that track is called "vole", meaning "fly" and which i believe can be found on her "falling into you" cd, the song being then translated into english, as well as for "if that's what it takes", a translation of "pour que tu m'aimes encore"... althought it might be original to translate songs into english, i can guarantee you that the english versions are no equivalents for the french versions; some things can only be said and realized in its full potential in a certain language, and some things just cannot be translated, period.
no matter, music is universal, so if you enjoy celine and regardless of whether you know french or not, this is a cd to be enjoyed :)

Since she was 12 years old, Celine Dion has been recording in French. In those years, she was fortunate to work with some of the best songwriters in France and in Quebec, who had the impossible task of writing material for a teenage girl, and then for a young woman.

Then she met Jean-Jacques Goldman.

A singer/songwriter Dion calls "the Bruce springsteen of France", Goldman took the time to really get to the singer before writing a word. He read every interview he could find. He watched every television appearance he could get his hands on. He met with Dion and Rene Angelil and took the opportunity to know her and find out what her abilities and talents really were. Then he took the time to work with her, gave her constructive criticism on her singing style, and gave her a renewed sense of confidence in her abilities.

The end result was the largest-selling Francophone album - ever. This album is practically flawless. From beginning to end, the listener gets the absolute best of Dion's abilities, whether she's singing an upbeat song or pouring her heart in the love ballads, there is no denying this is Celine at her best.

For fans of Celine Dion, this is a must-have. for fans of French music, this is a must-have.

Celine Dion is a phenomenon singing in her native tongue. This album has songs that are beautifully written and beautifully executed. Jean-Jacques is a musical genius. These songs simply cannot be translated and still retain the clever play on words and the depth of emotions evoked that they do in French. Celine is able to vary the feel of each song from the gradual crescendo of feeling in Ballet to the faster rythmic beat of Destin. I have listened to this album continually for almost two years and I know I will never tire of it.

Celine and Jean-Jacques - you are the best.
