I just started playing table tennis about four months ago, and I'm still progressing and learning. I find this paddle very solid when it comes with my forehands, backhands, blocks, and punches. It took me about a week to adjust, since I came from playing with a really cheap $5 paddle. The rubber tackiness is amazing, i've been getting many remarks mentioning about my spin. I will say it has improved my game tremendously to the point where I've been able to compete and a solid pace with friends who have been playing many years before me. Though, I've only tested out several paddles ranging from a entry level stiga to a vintage professional butterfly paddle, and I will say from the 2 weeks i've used this paddle I've really grown to love and adjust to this paddle.

However, there are some cons, the wood blade feels cheap, and there is a foul "rotten fish" smell that comes with the handle(placing fabric softener over it for a few hours helps a lot). In addition, loops on this paddle i find is very hard to adjust to, although I've been using it for only a few weeks, I can't seem to find the right feeling for the loop. Some people may find the rubbers as a con, since the hurricane III feels very hard, and the G888 is only slightly softer. The rubber's tackiness requires lots of maintence as it picks up dust frequently. Also, it's worth noting that the paddle is very head heavy.

As a beginner, I find this paddle to serve me justice in strengthening my techniques and improving my game, as well as teaching me to handle strong odors.

I purchased this racket off of Amazon in December and have been using it ever since. I'm an intermediate player and find this to really compliment my style. It loops very well, handles spin great, and is all around good especially for the price!

It's very, very tacky out of the box but that goes away with play. I'm very happy with this racket but I do have to warn you, when brand new it smells like fish! Very smelly.

This is an excellent paddle for someone who wishes to transition from beginner level to intermediate level. Both the H3Neo and the G888 are fairly hard and medium tacky rubbers, combining with the soft wooden blade gives you good speed, very good spin, and pretty good control as well. It allows you to execute even the most advanced moves such as backhand banana flicks and side spin loops. You also get a great feeling for the ball, due to the ample amount of vibrations. I used this racket for about 5 months, raising my playing level from roughly USATT 1000 to about 1450, before switching to a custom made paddle that's faster and lighter.

As for the negatives, others have mentioned that the paddle smells pretty strong, which is very true. However, more importantly, it's a bit unbalanced, being quite top-heavy. Some people prefer that, but I think it hampers with quick wrist movement required for deceptive services and backhand shots. It's also just plain heavy at around 200 grams.

In all, if you're transitioning from beginner table tennis to intermediate level, then you can't find a more effective solution than this racket. If you're looking for a racket for advanced play, then it's better to get a custom one. Then again, if you're an advanced player, you're probably not shopping for premade rackets on Amazon either :)

This review is for folks who, like me, play beyond the beginner level and find themselves somewhere in the intermediate level yet want to use a decent paddle.

You'll have to excuse me as I lack the technical knowledge and jargon of the table tennis world. That being said, the handle smells like fish like everyone else has mentioned. Thankfully, the smell has dissipated significantly. The smell of the handle shouldn't stop you from buying this paddle. It really is a great value. From what I read on other reviews the rubber used (G888 and Hurricane III) is very good quality. I am able to generate tons of spin and carry a good amount of speed through my shots, yet still maintain control. The amount of spin I put on serves is just ridiculous. My friend who was on the other side of the table mentioned how much ball movement there was on my serve. I do find that I keep the ball in play more with the black side (G888) than the red side (H3). I guess I'm still figuring out how to approach the ball with the red side. It is head heavy, but not so much that I couldn't make quick adjustments. The extra weight really puts some *oomph* behind my shots.

I would recommend getting the Killerspin Rubber Protector if you get this paddle, it's only $1.99. The rubber on this paddle is really tacky and you'll want something to keep the rubber free from dirt, dust, and debris when not playing.

For the price versus performance it's a no brainer. Just buy it...and be sure to wash your hand afterwards because it will smell like fish. :)

UPDATE: 5/27/12
After using the x4002 for almost 6 months, playing once a week (2 hr sessions) I am still very satisfied with my purchase. My initial review mentioned using the G888 (black)rubber on forehand.
