ok this router is nice and cheap but if it was set up wrong you will need to call support and pay $32.95 for 30 minutes to set it up right.I give this router 4 stars because of the set up fee. Seller was nice to he did try to help when i told him the router wasnt working right.I purchased DI-604 and the DI-614 which is a wireless router no problems with it just pluged it in and bingo it started woking. So it was just luck of draw if you get one programed right or not.

My 12+ year old Belkin router started dropping Internet connections, and I picked up a used DI-604 at a famous auction site for $5. My old router was a bottleneck for Internet downloads, something I did no know until I measured hugely better speeds with this D-Link router.

NOTE: There were several revisions of this device, and the last one sold in the USA was hardware revision E - the ONLY version with firmware that can be updated. Hardware and original firmware versions are stated on the underside label. I suggest only buying h/w revision E1 or later of this discontinued product.

The D-Link support site is superb. Firmware, Manual, FAQs and Quick Install Guide are all there. I downloaded the latest firmware (ver. 3.53 from 2007), went through the quick setup wizard, and I was networked instantly. Stunningly, I now have 25 percent faster download speeds on the Internet than previously possible with my Belkin router. Downloads speeds using the DI-604 test the same as a straight connection from the modem to a PC.

I was dreading having to figure out how to enter PPPoE WAN settings, etc. But, this router was painless to install. The setup Wizard quickly and optimally addressed configuration issues. Additionally, the setup menu has a huge range of options that can be configured manually.

Bottom Line: If you get the last revision (E1 or later) of this now discontinued product and install the latest firmware, this old-school device performs superbly. Setup is quick and easy. The router works great with PCs using different operating systems and my AT&T DSL speeds (using the same DSL modem) are faster than ever before.

i had this router for quite a while... you can forward anything easy as pie will not hold traffic to your apps for any reason... these new futuristic routers provide unnecessary protection and are very hard to set up... i had a very hard time setting up my sphere server with trendnet... till this day couldn't do it that's why im purchasing this baby again...
