4.0 out of 5 stars A good reference book, but not exhaustive, August 12, 2000

This review is from: DICTIONARY OF INVENTIONS (Wordsworth Reference) (Paperback)
This book was first published in French in 1988, so it is fairly up to date. I have a slew of these kinds of books in my library; I hate not knowing the answer to a question (or more precisely, not being able to find the answer to a question). Covering a wide range of inventions, this book gives short, concise explanations of their origins. My only real complaint is that they don't cover enough, and sometimes obvious inventions are left out. For example, the airplane is omitted, and the Wright Brothers probably would have liked to have been included. Overall, a nice little book that with some more work could have been the definitive take on the subject.
