This book is a quick read and is packed with tips for improving your job situation by improving your attitude and respect for your job. The author favors trying to made your current situation better rather then jumping ship but there is also advice on interviewing skills and starting a new job.I thought the latter half of the book was mostly geared towards sales people & even though the author believes we are all in some form sales people as an IT person not being close to the sales side at all, I didn't get much value here. Also, the section on "Advice Your Dad Would Give You", was marginally of value as most peoples dads these days grew up in a different time and the bottom line is still hard work, I didn't really care what others' Dads think. I wouldn't call this a great book but there are enough tips in there to make it worth the ten bucks.

A Way to Hold On To Your Job (Or Find Another) Serious Advice With A Sense of Humor,
This review is from: DIG YOUR JOB: Keep it or Find a New One (Kindle Edition)
The world is choked with books to help you find a job. But G.L. Hoffman's book, "Dig Your Job -- Keep it or Find a New One" (JobDig, Inc., 2008, [...]) does something that might be even better: It can help you KEEP your job. After all, you might do better by making the most of the job you have rather than chancing the unemployment line for supposedly greener grass elsewhere, especially during a nationwide recession. Hoffman is an authority on jobs and careers. He's currently Chairman of an employment-focused media company serving employers in a wide variety of industries."Dig Your Job" shows you how to maximize your job, get noticed, get promoted, get along, manage, make friends, make money, have more fun at work and generally--survive and prosper in the workaday world. And yes, it can also help you if you're looking for a job. It's an easy read, too, because, while its advice is absolutely serious and on the mark, the tone and style of the book is funny and fun-loving. The chapters are short and, often, lists of very handy (and humorous) tips. It's the kind of advice you'd get if you had a Dutch uncle who was smart, funny, an experienced entrepreneur and successful investor--all of which Hoffman is. Make sure to note the numerous "RPT's" -- "Recession Protector Tips" throughout the book. Especially timely advice for these challenging economic times. Landing a job is only a fleeting success if you can't hold onto it. "Dig Your Job" helps you stay employed and get more out of your work. Think of Hoffman's book as a great mentor you can put in your pocket. Because that's exactly what it is. |
