4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but no directions
The desired results - wide angle photographs - are excellent. However, the lens has two separate parts which screw together, there were no directions as to whether to use one or both, what the purpose of each lense was. Nothing on the box, no insert, which is why I have given it 4 stars instead of five.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic wide-angle & macro
When I bought my Nikon D40, it came with a Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens and a telephoto zoom. I needed something that would let me get up close, and would let me photograph an entire tree without backing up to the other side of the street. This lens adapter fills the bill. It includes a macro ring that you can use without the wide-angle. On the downside, the optics are not the...

Considering this is a $30 item, it wouldn't be reasonable to expect a full-fledged nikkor wide angle lens output costing greater than 10x more. For the price, the product delivers. At full wide, you do get vignetting at the corners, solution being to push in a little just enough to get rid of the vignetting. Zooming in a little bit does not cancel out the wide angle effect. You still will be able to gain significantly more of the scene in your shot.

The wide angle lens screws off, leaving the macro lens. With the macro lens attached, you will be able to get significantly closer to the object you want a close up. Just turn off autofocus and switch to manual, then turn the manual focus ring until the object comes into focus.

The bonus lens wipe that comes in the package works well too.

That said, you may want to check out Nikon VCL-0746 wide angle conversion lens also sold at Amazon for just $10 as of the date of this review. I don't have it, but it seems to be similar product that is cheaper and made by Nikon. You might not get the macro lens, and definitely no cloth...

I needed something that would let me get up close, and would let me photograph an entire tree without backing up to the other side of the street. This lens adapter fills the bill. It includes a macro ring that you can use without the wide-angle. On the downside, the optics are not the greatest. There is a noticeable amount of spherical aberration and color smearing around the edges. Usually, I use it to zoom in on the subject and crop the outside of the image away. It works quite well for this, and is well worth the investment. [...]

I haven't used this much, but i was playing around with it a bit and it is very easy to attach and use. The picture is beautiful and significantly bigger also.

2.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT PURCHASE the 0.5x digital wide angle macro professional series lens, June 27, 2009
This review is from: DIGITAL CONCEPTS1 0.5x Digital Wide Angle Macro Professional Series Lens + DB ROTH Micro Fiber Cloth for Nikon DSLR Cameras (Electronics)
I am just starting out in photography, on a limited budget, and looking for good wide angle lenses. I was looking at the more expensive wide angle lenses, but I saw the 0.5x digital wide angle macro professional series lens, so I decided to give it a shot. Heck, how bad could it be? Well... it's pretty bad. Besides the fact that the lens positively reeks of benzene (not too good for you...cancer causing carcinogen), the major issue I have with the lens is the results of the pictures, which I am sure everyone else would be as well. When you take a picture with the lens attachment, you get this very dark and noticeable vignetting. Don't like that at all. In order to get rid of the vignetting, you have to close the focal distance. But in doing so, you negate the entire purpose of the lens, to take wide angle pictures. Look at the pictures I posted and judge for yourself whether or not you can deal with it. The other issue was the fish-eye effect.

On the whole, a regrettable purchase. However, turning lemons into lemonade, I am also the proud owner of a $30 paper weight shaped like a camera lens. Sweeeet! It actually works very well as a paper weight. The cap at the top functions as a very good grip and the cap at the bottom is smooth and able to glide over even the toughest of paper stacks. And what's that? You need two paperweights, well fear not, because a few dozen counter clockwise turns separates the smaller macro lens (which does absolutely nothing by itself... still confused as to why the two lenses are detachable) from the upper part of the lens (which also does nothing useful) and voila! Two paper weights! And a simple application of your favorite stickers to the body of the lens enables you to express your own creativity as well as support either you favorite sports team, hello kitty, or whatever else you desire.

Believe me, save up and buy a quality wide angle lens and not this particular "lens." When it comes to photography equipment, a short cut ends up costing you twice as much in the long run.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit my camera, February 12, 2010
This review is from: DIGITAL CONCEPTS1 0.5x Digital Wide Angle Macro Professional Series Lens + DB ROTH Micro Fiber Cloth for Nikon DSLR Cameras (Electronics)
This lens says that it works with Nikon DSLR cameras. I have a Nikon D90 and it does not fit my camera at all. In the instructions it says that an adapter may be required and to email the included contact for type. I have done this wit no responses.

Did anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
