5.0 out of 5 stars Preforms as well as caliper sets costing three to four times this one.
I purchased this caliper to use for model building but found it to be accurate enough to be used for much more. I now use it (when needed) for case preparation when reloading metallic cartridges, and believe it would satisfy most mechanics for engine and light machine work.

I purchased these calipers because they were affordable, 8" as opposed to 6", digital, and both English and SI units. Prior reviews were all very good and I felt that I would be receiving a quality product. Unfortunately, the set I received appears to be an anomaly. 5.0 out of 5 stars Preforms as well as caliper sets costing three to four times this one., July 18, 2009
I purchased this caliper to use for model building but found it to be accurate enough to be used for much more. I now use it (when needed) for case preparation when reloading metallic cartridges, and believe it would satisfy most mechanics for engine and light machine work.

Easily switches SAE / Metric with a single button. The zero button allows easy calibration, comparison measurements, and makes using the depth gauge much easier.

Operates the same as Vernier calipers I have used that cost three to four times what this one costs.

Includes an extra battery and a decent storage case.

Resolution: 0.0005" (0.01mm).

Believe the stated accuracy is correct at .001" / 0.02mm (< 100mm); 0.001" / 0.03mm (100mm - 200mm).

Repeatability: 0.0005" / 0.01mm

Slightly less shock resistant than mechanical and dial type caliper.

Overall a great buy for the price. I am completely satisfied with this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars One badass caliper!, October 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Back in college only the privileged kids had those fancy Mitutoyo digital calipers. Fast forward to 2010 and these things have become accessible to the masses not just the well-to-do. People at work teased me for $14 SE calipers until we tested in with gauge blocks and it was dead nuts accurate! The boss went and bought a boat load of these puppies for everyone and we use them daily. Incredible value! Am I a nerd for reviewing digital calipers? Yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8" Digital Caliper review., August 23, 2008

The calipers many fine points are all very good the depth gage the inner and outer prongs all work with excellence and the accuracy is precise. The digital read out makes taking the measurements exacting and error free with it's easy view of the readings taken you can't mistake seeing and writing them down for your use later. Over all it is one of the best calipers I've ever used, and I've used around 6 different types.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy but accurate, April 26, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was concerned when I opened the box and handled this caliper. Compared to a same sized metric Mitutoyo analog caliper I own, it feels flimsy and cheap. I guess that makes sense because it IS cheaper...a lot cheaper!

However, I checked the accuracy of this caliper with a certified Mitutoyo .20 inch gage block. The reading was 0.200 inches. Can't get any better than that. Only time will tell if the accuracy will be maintained. I'm going to be very careful not to drop it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, June 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these calipers because they were affordable, 8" as opposed to 6", digital, and both English and SI units. Prior reviews were all very good and I felt that I would be receiving a quality product. Unfortunately, the set I received appears to be an anomaly. The calipers were already on when I first opened the case, which I found to be strange. I proceeded to follow the instructions, cleaning the slider with a cotton cloth. I then tried to use the calipers by "zeroing" and measuring small objects on my desk. The calipers would show a "mad display", as described in the instructions. This "mad display" is when the display changes values rapidly, even when the calipers aren't moving! The calipers would jump from 3" to 96" to -300", etc. The instructions said to clean the calipers to prevent this. However, this was something I'd already done. Nevertheless, I cleaned the calipers AND I removed the battery for a few minutes and replaced it. I encountered the same problem again. I'm happy that other people have had good luck with this product, but I've had a very different experience. Next time I'll be going with a recognized brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works - great price, November 21, 2009

I got this to measure fin setting on waterski - yes, they are measured to thousands. I needed the 8" capacity but didn't want to spend the $80 or so that's typical.

This has done a great job - I've even checked settings against more costly calipers.

Comes with an extra battery. Screen is really larger than most, and is readible in direct sunlight at ski lake.

Absolutely recommend to infrequent or casual user!

2.0 out of 5 stars Electronic Calipers, now a commodity item., October 3, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm trying to purchase 10 or 20 inexpensive, but robust, calipers for use in my wife's science classroom.

The sample variance is high. We have tried 4 different no-name brands, two are fine, the others are poorly manufactured, do not work smoothly, and are more difficult for young students to use. This is complicated by the fact that it doesn't seem possible to know exactly what will be delivered. Close examination of the web site images and descriptions reveals that one catalog description often shows several DIFFERENT samples of the same purported product! It's a roll of the die (i.e., a 'crap-shoot'). Trying to match the catalog entries with the samples you have is impossible. The items seem to all be subtly different. We have even seen the catalog descriptions change from one day to the next. 'Brands' come and go as well.

It doesn't even make sense to rate these items since what may be delivered to you may have no relation to what was delivered to me! Comparing illustrations is useless since the delivered items do not necessarily correspond to the illustrations on Amazon. If I could, I'd rate this item 2 question marks. Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper and better than most, September 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For such being so inexpensive, I've been very happy with the accuracy and reliability of this digital caliper.

I originally purchased a digital caliper from the local hardware store, which was made of plastic and was about twice the cost. Their readings would change dramatically based on slight variations in the pressure that I exerted, due to the flimsiness of the plastic. I've had none of those issues with this caliper. Even if you extend it entirely and then contract it again, the readings are never more than 0.01mm off of their original calibration.

Unfortunately it didn't last long. In a few month display became unreadable and numbers are showing anything, but exact measure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, January 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For years I've said to myself, "If only I had a caliper, this would be so much easier." I am finally working on a weekend project where getting accurate measurements is crucial, so I finally decided to buy one. Now I can't figure out how I managed without them. This caliper does exactly what calipers should do. They return to zero in the closed position time and time again. I end up zeroing them once every 10 or so measurements (or when taking differential measurements of course).

The only negative (and it's ever so slight) is that they aren't the smoothest when sliding. Not really a problem, but worth 1/2 star off (if only Amazon allowed for 1/2 stars). They shipped with one battery installed and a second sealed in a bubble pack. For that little extra on the manufacturer's part, I'm pushing the 4 1/2 star up to 5 stars instead of down to 4 stars.

Get them, you'll be happy you did.
