I purchased this because we were traveling for 3 weeks with alot luggage(8 bags).It seems one is always over weight. It work great for the first 2 weeks with out a problem, HOWEVER in the 3rd WEEK IT JAM AND THE ONLY WAY TO UNJAM IT WAS TO TAKE OUT THE BATTERY. This happen a couple times after that,unfortunately we are home and won't be traveling for a couple more months. I will keep you up to date.
UPDATE: 9/1/2009 As of this date we recently used it again and it it work GREAT with no problems

Well this is a gadget one should have if
you travel more than twice a year. Recently, most domestic and international carriers are charging for excess baggage & weights. Domestic carriers no longer allows passengers to carry checked baggage for free. Now depending on the Internatonal carrier you choose the fees can vary on destination. It can be very costly monetary wise
and can lead to embarrassment at the checking counter. To avoid all that dillemas this is the perfect tool. I work for an International carrier and we happen to travel to multiple destination in Asia. Without much worries we were able to weigh the bags at our hotel and checkin without any issues or last minute dramas. The only disadvantage to having this gadget is you have to put this around the handle an lift it up for about 10-15 seconds which might feel like eternity, but other than that this is a great tool to have and can save you tons of money at the airport by ensuring the weight of baggage before you arrive at the airport.

Again...one piece of advice don't lift a 50lbs bag if you are not capable of doing so. The portable scales locks the weight in around 15 seconds. Also, the scale can hold around 100lbs without any problems as long as u can lift it up. Hope this helps.

I have just returned to Spain from the USA and found that the correlation between between this instrument and two sets of airport scales was within plus or minus 0.1 Kg ( 0.22 lb ). The only problem I found was that it is difficult to reset the scales without getting a false reading for the next lift, fortunatly the false reading is obvious. Very good quality materials and secure metal handle.

In spite of the reviews saying it is not accurate, I found it very consistent and accurate. It takes some muscle to lift a 50 - 70 pound suitcase hanging down from it but that is not the faulf to the scale. When lifting, holding it steady, not letting it swing will give consistent and accurate readings. I took it on a trip to europe where we took a lot of goodies for relatives and brought back a lot of wine and other purchases so it was very much needed and helpful, especially giving weight in either pounds or kilos. Highly recommended.

I use to carry a scale with me but it got confiscated by the TSA as unapproved item.
So I am in the market for another as I do travel a lot for extended periods.

Therefor, I presume this is not TSA approved. Be sure to know that before you order especially if you travel international.

This is the only reason I have scored it one star. Otherwise the reviews by others seems to be a great product.
TSA approval is always stamped on the product and I feel it was the sellers responsibility to contact the manufacturer.

Simple, effective design. I got this while I was traveling because of the 50-pound limit on each bag.

I'm a person that pushes boundaries, if the limit is 50lbs chances are I'm going to try for 48-49 (leaving one for differences in scale calibration). Because of this, I have ended up moving items from bag to bag at the ticket counter. This is not in keeping with harmonious traveling. This way, you can check each person's bag in your hotel or even a parking lot.

To use it, you wrap the scale's 1-inch wide strap around the bag strap and lift the bag with the scale. The design is better than the photo and allows you to grip it easily with two hands. There are also no hinges to get stressed or break.

Three buttons; one to turn it on and off (it says Hello and Bye which is cool), one to change between pounds and kilograms and one to reset.

Things to consider:

I thought it was smaller than it is, especially since the design is completely different from the photo. The unit is 6" long by 2.5" wide by 1" height with all edges rounded.

It does not come with batteries so make sure you get two AAAs when you order if you plan to use it right away.

For the price, this little gadget helped me avoid the costly fee imposed by the airline. The scale was off about one pound. I am five foot so I had to stand on a chair to lift my 29 inch bag. I feel that for the money I paid for this, it was well worth it. I appreciated the fast service in receiving the luggage scale, also.

I LOVE this product, true to luggage weight also took it with me to weigh when coming back from trip. Had a couple of freinds to order also, they love it as well. Just make sure you change the kg to lbs before weighing

I have this scale and it is an excellent resource. We go on trips every year and with the increased strictness of the weight restrictions on airlines this allows us to know exactly how much to pack in our bags. It is simple to operate and will save you the trouble of having to redistribute your weight at the check in counter.

My first product did not work and had to be exchanged. The second seems to work well. However, installing the batteries was a pain, as there were no directions and it isn't obvious how to do it. Fortunately one can Google online and find out the trick. The plastic clip that secures the strap around what you are weighing is difficult to operate and should be redesigned. Finally, using the "tare" or "container" mode again isn't at all obvious. The instructions don't help and this one I couldn't Google. Still can't use it in that mode. They need to improve the design and create a simple manual that answers all these questions. Overall, however, I would recommend it.
