I was not into the idea of switching from sponges to clothes for washing dishes, but my husband really wanted to go less germ-y and more environmentally friendly, so I agreed as long as I could choose the trial-run product. After reading tons of reviews for different dish cloths, I went with these, the DII heavyweight coastal shades (chose the lighter shades because of multiple reviews of bright colors running in first use).
I am shocked by how much I love using these for the dishes. We do not have a dishwasher, so I've used them to wash everything now from glasses to cutlery to bakeware; I actually think these cloths are more efficient (clean better and faster) than sponges because of the tight-knit weave (as opposed to porous squishyness), which was surprising to me. They are great for forks--much easier to remove stubborn bits from between the tines then when I used sponges. Despite the tight weave, I didn't have trouble getting them soaked through with water the first time, and if you squeeze them out when finished and hang over the sink faucet, they dry reasonably fast. They are slightly brighter/less muted than the image shows (although if you zoom in, it's pretty accurate) which I like. I have not put them through the washing machine yet, so cannot comment on how they hold up after multiple washes. But as I don't intend to put them in the dryer, I imagine they will last a long time. Especially with eight in each pack.

Purchased these dishcloth from Amazon.com and they are the BEST I have ever purchased. I sincerely love them and I did not have to search everywhere for them. Thanks DII and Amazon.

One note. Red ones bleed a little the first time they get wet. After that no problems. Very thick and well made.

Very durable. I love the material they are made from. I like everything about them. I don't know what else to say about kitchen towels. :)

We moved recently and two things (dishcloth related) happened -- (1) the box with my dishcloths (and who knows what else) seems to have disappeared and (2) I couldn't find dishcloths that I used to use in the stores near my new house. For the past two months I've used a nylon bristle brush, but wasn't at all happy with results. Washing dishes with a cloth is the only way I can do it well -- having the feeling in my fingers as to how clean I've gotten an item is something I sorely missed when using the nylon bristled brush (sadly for anyone who had to use the dishes I'd 'cleaned'.) These dishcloths are even better than my previous ones (higher quality and a bit larger), so it's a happy thing that that box went missing. I concur that washing these prior to initial use is a good idea -- a sink full of green water taught me that.

After reading the negative reviews I was concerned about my purchase - but there was no need to be. These are great dishcloths....absorb water well, are nice & thick, and have some scrubbing power. Only drawback is that you should wash them before using - the colored dyes bleed the first time they enter hot water. I would purchase these again.

Great for everyday napkins,
This review is from: DII Coastal Shades Heavyweight Dishcloth, Set of 8 (Kitchen)
I was looking for a "green" solution to replace paper napkins at my house, and discovered these. I LOVE them and find them perfect for this use. They are very thick, a perfect size, very nice in appearance. They have been in use about 3 months and are working out well. They wash well; the hemmed edges get a little crumpled in the dryer, but I found that removing them while still a little damp, and hanging to dry solves that issue. Mine were a set of 8 which works well for two of us; colors were different - included 2 each of light brown, maroon, rust, and dark green.

They stink - literally,

These rags take forever to dry and as a result they end up reeking. I'd wash dishes, ring out the dish rag and it would smell extremely sour within an hour. I actually threw them all in the trash.

I'm one of those people who still believe in doing dishes by hand, so I've used a lot of dishcloths over the years. Usually I buy the "thin" ones because they get into all the crevices of silverware, etc. They have become almost extinct (like me I guess) and the last few times they have started to fall apart during the first laundry! Based on a few of the reviews for this type I decided to try them. These are really well made and look like they will hold up well for a long time. These are hemmed on all four sides, are in good colors - that don't seem to run in the wash - and though they aren't very thin, they do wash the ol' egg in fork tines very well. I would definitly order these again, but as I got 8 in this order expect it will be a little while til I need more.

The reviews are correct--these are the best dish cloths! Thick and sturdy, they might last forever. They even dry quickly and don't have the problems that sponges do. I certainly recommend them and will purchase more to use around the house.
