After reading some mixed reviews on these I decided to order them anyway. I was tired of the new neoprene kind which are the only ones I can find in stores nearby these days. The $10 pair of those I've tried, melted after just a few uses so I figured around $8 for 3 of these was a great price and also wouldn't be a huge loss if I ended up disappointed.

These turned out to be exactly what I was looking for though. Nice standard potholders like the ones I'm used to and they've been doing the job just fine so far.

There are a few things I remember from some of the other reviews which I'd like to address. Someone mentioned there was a horrible plastic smell. I didn't find that to be the case. Yes they did smell a little bit like plastic when I first unwrapped them but that's what they were packaged in, so that's not surprising. The tags said to wash them before first use so I did. No more plastic smell whatsoever after that. As for them shrinking, they have very clear washing instructions on the tags which say to wash them in cold. I did that and they didn't shrink or warp at all. Maybe particularly bad stains won't go that way, I don't know, I haven't gotten them that dirty yet but I would try adding a non-bleach stain remover to the cold cycle first, instead of going against the washing instructions on the tags and then blaming the product and the 100% cotton front for doing what cotton usually does in hot water.

These are now the thinnest potholders I have. I went by another reviewer who said they were thick. She must have had some very thin ones before buying these. These are OK, but I can feel the heat coming through on things baked at just 325°. So my quest continues for the type of potholders that I used to be able to purchase---nice, thick terry, but still flexible. I hope my old ones hang in there longer.

09/25/22 Update:
I found some potholders at a local grocery store, and purchased them, hoping that the terry would be thicker. I almost fell over to discover that they were the EXACT same potholder, just rebranded. These are basically just generics.

There's not much to say about the potholders. They are a silver, heat-resistent cloth on one side and black terry cloth on the other. They are thick enough to protect the surface from being overheated but are flexible enough that I can use them to get items out of the oven when the mitts are not convenient. 3 to a pack and for a decent price, there are no complaints here!

You can never have enough pot holders and, having said that, these are the ones not to have enough of. The heat treated lining makes it possible to stand holding a hot casserole while your family trains through the kitchen. On one occasions I picked up a steak from a grill and carried it to the house-no platter was available as it was in service as a Frisbie. They are inexpensive and when one dies an untimely death you won't choke at the price of replacing it/them. They're a good, easily held size and the soft backing seems to adhere to wet hands, sticky hands, greasy hands, hands in need of washing etc. They survive trips through the washing machine nicely and don't warp when put through a dryer. I like them. You'll like them. Buy them.

EDITED To Add 12/24/14: My original review is from 9/30/11. Recently, I saw that they changed this page's product description (underneath all the color options at the top) to state that these potholders are 8 x 8. The product info didn't used to give a size, and I took a star off in my original review for the potholders' smaller size.
When they changed the product description to state that the potholders are now 8 x 8, I got all excited and ordered another set. I just received them today and I am very disappointed. They are the same size as the ones I got back in 2011 (which shrunk a bit after washing)! The ones received today are 7 x 7 with a loop on one corner. If you hold the loop straight out from one of the sides and measure the holder+loop it equals 8 inches. That must be where they got the 8 x 8 from, and this is FALSE.

[original review]

I've been looking in stores for potholders with one side in the Silverstone fabric, as my tried and true potholders are still serviceable, but getting stained. I had to give up on finding them in a store, and ordered these on-line from amazon.

First, these are definitely thicker than my favorite old ones. These new ones work great as far as protecting the
hands. I've washed them and was happy to see that the terry side did not wash out (I bought them in red, and my dryer lint collector did not have any red lint). This means a good quality terry was used. The stitching on the quilting is also good and sturdy.

The only reason I knocked off a star is that these are a little smaller than my preferred. My tried and true are 8 1/2" square. These Excello ones are about 7.5" each side (almost square).

I live alone and eat in front of the TV most of the time. I had been using paper towels to hold my hot bowls or plates. I decided I would get some cloth pot holders to use and run through the washer. I was very excited about these. They are very bright red just as pictured. I can't say I was particularly surprised they shrank when washed. That is the only complaint I have. They are comfortable to hold and seem well constructed. They are certainly thick enough to protect hands, counters, or tables from heat in pots or pans.
