This was a really great short story. The author did an amazing job of giving you all the details and twists of a novel, but still packed it into a short version. The story sucked you in and was short enough to easily finish in one sitting.
The main character, Chris Connor, was well written and you could easily relate to his emotions. As my first Joshua Graham story, I will definately be reading more of his work.

Faking his own death and watching from afar as his wife and young son cry and see the casket lowered into the grave, believing that their husband and father has died, Chris Connor knows no other way to keep his family safe. They hear three rounds from seven rifles salute, then the bagpipes begin, and a colonel hands his wife the folded flag. His little boy, Robbie, kept crying, "Daddy, daddy." Chris Connor left the scene of his own funeral and continued on with his plans to take down the person responsible for killing his first born son. Khrenikov and the mob "Bratva" would pay. Chris's cover was that he had been gunned down by the Russian mob. Will they recognize him or will his alias be enough to keep him safe while he plays out his plans to avenge little Ben's death? And most of all, what is Chris's plan?

This story by Joshua Graham doesn't leave much room for relaxing. It moves right along according to plan and is full of action and suspense. It ends at about location 580 on the Kindle and I found it went by very fast. I got to know Chris Connor and several other characters pretty well. I enjoyed this story very much and recommend it to others who like suspense and action all wrapped up into one.

Thank heavens this was an Amazon freebie when I got it. The story started out as a solid three star novella, but quickly moved to two stars and just not my cuppa review file. Then the final twist happened and it all fell apart.

Maybe it's just because I don't share the author's inner ideals - mine lie on the other side of the globe - but I didn't have real reason to cheer for Chris Conner at any point. Graham completely failed to sell me Conner's motivations. His kid died, tough, but Conner's contempt - not rage, mind you - towards the big bad didn't come from losing his son, it came from wounded work ego and patriotism.

I think I'll leave it at that and just say I didn't like it. Doesn't mean you'll have to agree with me though.

Graham's novella was good enough to have me purchase some of his other books. To be able to do that with a story that is only 51 pages long says a lot. The characters are believable and the pace of the story is good. If you like short stories that focus on a singular character focused on avenging the death of a loved one, this is the story for you. Took me all of 40 minutes to finish the novella. Strongly recommend as a quick story to transition between one major novel to the next.

In this short, Graham takes us into the world of a man who lost something precious--his son. Determined to met out justice and revenge, Chris Connor will not fail.

I do wish there was more background on why the son was killed and how, but realize it is a short story. I think this would have just added a bit more to the emotional state of the father (Chris Connor) before he sets out to infiltrate the Russian mafia.

Joshua Graham grabs you and pulls you into this story from the very beginning. This is a short story, so there is a lot of shorthand in the writing, but very well done. Character development is deftly handled in so short a format, and one immediately empathizes with the main character. There is the feeling that the tale could have been expanded into a longer, more detailed work, but the picture is nevertheless well-drawn and missing nothing. As an example of this writer's work, it serves well to inspire the reader to seek more of the same.
