5.0 out of 5 stars Be Aware - May Need B-Band Converter!, June 4, 2011

This review is from: DIRECTV NEW H24 High Definition NO DVR MPEG-4 Enabled Receiver 3D Ready (H-24) *** 2 Year commitment may be required by DirectTV, please contact the seller for details. *** (Electronics)
If you want to receive HD channels AND have a legacy Slimline dish (this means you have 2 wires going to your DVR's) you WILL REQUIRE a B-Band converter to allow this H24 receiver to receive the HD channels. It is NOT in the box! If you have a newer Slimline dish that utilizes a SWiM switch (single wire multiswitch - only requires one wire to your DVR) you WILL NOT need a B-Band converter. DirecTV does not seem to know any of this, as evidenced by the 4 techs I spent hours with on the phone last night. Other than that, this is a great little receiver. Nice & small, very quick access to the guide & other functions, much faster than the older H23's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast Shipping - Best Price on the Web, September 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

The receiver was sent quickly, and was exactly what was listed on Amazon. This is about the best price on this H24 box that I could find at $85. This box is the Non-DVR HD DirecTV box. Unlike the newer (and smaller) H25 box, this H24 box will work with SWM & Non-SWM systems. It does require the B-Band Converter for the Non-SWM systems in order for the HD channels to come in. The seller included a new B-Band Converter with the receiver for free.

5.0 out of 5 stars super video, January 8, 2012

this HD receiver was an addition to my existing directv setup at my home. It compliments my HR24 pvr
MAIN RECEIVER and exhibits excellent high-def video. Love the menu choices. The remote control is the
standard type as used in most of directv's setups and is easy to use. This would be an ideal satellite
unit in a den or bedroom for someone who doesn't need to record their programming. the Amazon seller
provided super fast delivery and I would recommend buying from him.

I am very pleased with this purchase. I bought this to upgrade from the standard definition receiver to a HD receiver. The only issue I had was the seller didn't include a b-band converter (BBC) as the photo in the listing shows. I sent a message identifying the missing item and to my surprise, they sent one to me via USPS yesterday. Yhanks for correcting this.

I just disconnected the old receiver from the wiring and installed the new receiver to. After receiving the BBC yesterday, I was able to upgrade to whole home HD DVR service by calling DirecTV and working with a service agent and their technical support. They talked me through it the set-up process. By procuring this from Amazon.com and not DirecTV, I avoided the $199.00 service fee that DirecTV would have tacked onto my bill for sending an installer to get all of the equipment and set it all up for me.
