I purchased one of these to exercise my kittens. I got in early january, and it broke today, march 1st. My kittens are about 6 months old. The rod snapped just below the hinge, where the slider is. Save your money and by ice fishing rod and reel for the same amount. Beware, it is your typical "made in China" kind of product/plastic.
I loved this thing, when it worked, got the cats going and focused and worked great in that respect. The line is weak and you'll spend a lot of time retying it, and you will learn about the inner workings of the reel because it gets jammed on the regular. And now that it's broke and the whole thing is garbage and not reusable, I'm disappointed.
I highly recommend the lures, and I will continue to reuse them. But I will replace this with a ice fishing rod and reel that can handle being used.

Almost perfect cat toy, although an expensive one.
I'll start with the cons since they are fewer.
Cons:

*Somehow the line occasionally gets wound up in the mechanism inside. This requires tools to take it apart and unwind. This is what's happening when the line won't come out any farther and it stops winding either way.Really annoying since it requires at least 3 hands to accomplish.

*(not really con of toy, more so of operator) You have to be kind of careful aiming b/c the lures kind of hurt when they hit and dragging them across a cluttered table can be scary.

Pros:
*BOTH of my cats love it.(one will even sit by it and meow until we play)

*Even my chubby lazy cat will chase it and play. (He's not the dominant cat so he usually lays and watches while the other plays. with this toy he's not afraid to take it away from her if he wants to play) He actually starts panting.

*Great for lazy humans cuz you don't have to run around with them.

*Its fun to watch how adorable they are while you are "fishing for kitties"

Great toy, in the end worth the $$.

i got this at petsmart played with my cat 4 a while then a couple a hours later while playing it broke had 2 go n take it back n get my money back

The cats loved it but the line snarled right away. Got the thing apart and the line unsnarled but can't get it back together right and there are NO instructions to help out. Spent $22 on this item, played with it about 11 minutes, spent 3 aggravating hours trying to fix it and now its ready for the trash. NOT recommended.
