3.0 out of 5 stars No Toy Box mode for 3DS version?!? August 19, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The biggest thing my kids and I were looking forward to in this game was the toy box mode. It wasn't until after we brought it home that we discovered there is no toy box mode in the 3DS version. Why on earth have a hexagonal disc on the base? The description here is the same for every platform, but on the IGN wiki site, it has a specific section about the 3DS version. This will be going back and we'll get the Xbox 360 version instead. I'll update my review for that one in time.

More about the 3DS version:
The infrared connection of the base to the 3DS is weak. You have to hold the console just inches away from the base in order for it to recognize the connection. It doesn't stay connected for play. You only do it at the beginning for this version or whenever you want to add discs to the character. The base is also smaller than the other consoles. The base consists of the hexagonal spot and only one character spot unlike the other consoles that have two. The mini games are not bad. Sometimes it's hard to tell why you won or lost.

The Characters:
The characters and discs are the same as the other console versions. Characters are rubbery and soft and a little flexible. Some of Sculley's blue paint was in the packaging making me wonder about how long before his colors chip off or fade. You don't want to let toddlers play with these due to the fact the thinner characters, like Mrs. Incredible, feel like they might break if played with too forcefully.

Update:
We actually decided to keep this one and also get the Xbox 360 version because my son did enjoy every mode, but the story mode. For this, I'm going to up the stars to 3. The differences between this version and other versions should have been made more clear. Even on the box of the 3DS starter pack it misleadingly says "Toy Box Challenge."

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME August 20, 2013
By Nick

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This is NOT the same as the console versions. This is a crappy rip-off of Mario Party, with terrible graphics and even worse gameplay. There is NO TOY BOX MODE!!!! Nothing in the commercials is in this version of the game. Very sneaky, Disney, very sneaky indeed. If your kid only has a 3ds, get Skylanders. If they already have it, wait for Skylanders Swap Force. This game is garbage on the 3ds. I recommend it to NO ONE, not even my worst enemy.

EDIT 8/21: I'm glad to see that Amazon has done something about this issue and suspended sales for this item. Hopefully DIS will release a proper description for retailers to have for the 3DS version. Kudos, Amazon! Hopefully other videogame retailers will follow suit.

EDIT 2: A day or two after my last edit I noticed most every major retailer now has the correct information regarding the 3DS version of the game. Still took me almost a full week to get a major brick and mortar video game retailer to let me switch, after getting the runaround from their CSR and multiple employees (update my firmware on my system? Really? That won't fix any amount of false advertising!). Such a freaking headache for something that the consumers had no control over and were ultimately swindled by Disney! As long as I get one at least person to not buy this garbage and save them from the same experience I had I will be pleased with my actions.

The 3DS version of Disney Infinity is a bit different that the other platforms. It has more of a "Mario Party" feel to it. There isn't a Toy Box option like the other platforms to create your own world to play in. Instead, the power coins unlock special dice and toys to use in the larger than life board game. It is still entertaining, but I wish it was more like the other platform versions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Like Mario Party But Not The Console Experience August 20, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Basic Description:
It is quite fun. It is like mario party and in order to win 1st and beat the game you must collect the most infinity tiles(emblems). Disney has confirmed that you can load these characters back into the consoles and they will keep their levels. It serves as companion game. There is no option to take screenshots in game. I've played it for two days off an on so this is what I've discovered.

NOTE: This is a companion game NOT A REPLACEMENT NOR/(FOR) the same as the CONSOLE VERSION, if you want the full experience. Also note this game DOES NOT HAVE TOYBOX like the console version.

What it includes:
-It's turn based(quick play has about 10 dice rolls)
-You can store 3 characters at a time each with one power(loading once character in the game at a time.)
-Also power discs unlock rides/ weapons and textures/skies/themes unlock dice and weapons/rides you can select when playing certain mini games(it will give you the option before each minigame).
-Each character unlocks a new mini game. And there are bonuses for playing with a set(eg. all pirates).
-In game store where you can spend coins on, scenery, new game boards, and buildings etc. Not powers though. Coins are earned real easy.
-If you forget how to play a minigame it refreshes you with a how to play before the minigame everytime.
-Name your team with the pre selects.
- You can double your power disc powers if you stack two round discs on top of eachother.
-You can change 1 of your 3 team characters before each minigame.

Modes:

Story Mode: Progresses in levels, like a board game/quickplay mode, but with objectives. You pick a team of three.

Quick Play: You can mix and match board pieces to customize your experience.
