5.0 out of 5 stars Step by step for even the most uncrafty of people!
This book has everything you need to be a do-it-yourself fashion maven. 2.0 out of 5 stars Only for DIY's lowest common denominator.
As a girl who has dabbled in fashion DIY for a few years, I bought this book thinking I could pick up some new project inspiration. I was wrong.

The book isn't "even" for the uncrafty, it's only for the uncrafty or hopelessly uncreative. A three-year-old with a few pony beads and bottles of glue could have thought up most of these projects.

This book has everything you need to be a do-it-yourself fashion maven. Between the illustrations and the clear and concise instructions, even the most uncrafty of people (me) can turn a pillowcase into a skirt, make my own jewerly box, or create a beautiful mosaic table, all with inexpensive materials. The low price of the materials does not compromise the beauty and the overall effect of the finished product. I plan to gift this book to all the DIY girls in my life. Thanks, Jennifer Bonnell! 5.0 out of 5 stars the best craft book, November 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: DIY Girl (Paperback)
I know that all of the reviews have been saying for grades 7-10, etc. but I think it's great for all ages. I'm a college student, and most craft books have projects I think are boring, but this book is amazing. It has such a great variety of things, from lip gloss to tables, that I know I'll be using it for a while. It's a definite must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars D.I.Y. GIRL, a fun read for girls everywhere., July 26, 2004
By
This review is from: DIY Girl (Paperback)
You made that? It's great! Get ready to hear these words often --- even if you've never made anything before --- with the help of D.I.Y. GIRL. And you don't have to be super-skilled to work on the projects in this book, either.

Divided into three sections, ideas are provided for gifts, fashion accessories, and decorating. Though clever projects are found in all three sections, some of the easiest and most original can be found in the gift section. Standouts include the marble magnets and tacks, etched glass, poem flowerpots, and homemade lip balms and bath salts. In the other sections, decorated-flop shoes, hair jewelry, and a Christmas light lamp are easy enough for novices to create, yet look like something from a boutique.

Lots of craft books are available now, but this one is unique. In the introduction, it invites crafters to ignore the directions and change designs as they see fit. Readers are introduced to most types of crafts, including decoupage, sewing, beading, mosaic making, soap making, and more. Jennifer Bonnell provides her readers with many different skills and techniques, so that they can develop their own interests and ideas. A list of where to find supplies --- both online and in stores --- is a big help since a few of the projects have unusual ingredients.

There is something for all tastes and levels of skill in D.I.Y. GIRL, making it a fun read for girls everywhere.

I am in LOVE with this book. I got it for christmas from a friend and I want to try just about every craft in this book. It has tips along with the projects and the directions are so simple to understand. Most if not all reuse items to fit in with the budget of the average preteen-teen or younger even older!
I highly reccomend this book to anyone witht the slightest crafting itch or a crafting friend

2.0 out of 5 stars Only for DIY's lowest common denominator., August 2, 2005

This review is from: DIY Girl (Paperback)
As a girl who has dabbled in fashion DIY for a few years, I bought this book thinking I could pick up some new project inspiration. I was wrong.

The book isn't "even" for the uncrafty, it's only for the uncrafty or hopelessly uncreative. A three-year-old with a few pony beads and bottles of glue could have thought up most of these projects.

This book includes such gems as "Hip Clips." Material list: Hair clips, beads, glue. If you don't know what comes next, you'll like this book.

Another obnoxious feature is that some of the "original DIY projects" are actually just vague suggestions to use a specialty material. There's a full spread in this book dedicated to a project called "T-Shirt Transfers." To sum it up, it suggests following the directions on a package of iron-on T-shirt transfer paper. Amazing. No one would have thought of using T-shirt transfer paper to transfer images onto T-shirts!

If you have never made a craft involving more than crayons and paper, and are just dying to DIY for the sake of saying you can, this book would be a good starting point. But if you've had even a small amount of experience, or even if you just have a large amount of natural creativity, this book will have you shaking your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Ideas, July 22, 2008
This review is from: DIY Girl (Paperback)
I am a 30 something year old female and I really enjoyed this book. The ideas are cute and colorful and seem relatively easy to make. I gave it 4 stars for the simple fact that I have seen some of these ideas in other craft books.

5.0 out of 5 stars DIY for girls and ladies, January 29, 2007
By

This book is geared toward girls, but some of the projects, with a small amount of tweaking, would be appropriate for even ladies to attack! If you have nieces that are little girls or even tweens, there are some awesome projects to make with them at a sleepover! (Lip balm, bath salts, jewelry, lamps.) Very good book!
