5.0 out of 5 stars Should have been out earlier..........does it get better??, September 7, 2000

This new one from DJ Clue just takes him to another level. It shows how versatile he can be with songs for the club, to slow songs to r+b to hard core rap. This time around he pulls in new artists like T-boz and rell to join on the mix who both have good songs. The new song "Road dogs" is one of the best songs on the a;lbum with a tight beat. "In the club" with benie segal is another good one. I give this 5 stars just for the songs I liked on it. Out of 19 songs I liked 12 so I think it was still worth it. If your looking for a new mix album to bump in the car or anywhere then this is the cd to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live from the 718! DJ Cluueeee! Desert Storm, August 30, 2000
By
J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DJ Clue Presents: Backstage Mixtape (Audio CD)
It's on again ladies and gentlemen. DJ Clue is known worldwide for his mixtapes and CDs. Lately he has blessed us with The Great Ones Part 2& 3 and The Perfect Desert Storm. Each CD has had blazin' hip hop tracks that are going to be on current CDs and upcoming CDs that haven't been released yet. His latest installment to be released in stores is the soundtrack to the Hard Knock Life Tour, entitled, "Backstage- Mixtape". To anyone who knows DJ Clue or who actually heard his 1st CD that was released in stores, "The Professional", this soundtrack is an extension of his prior work. The soundtrack starts off with the HOT! "Best Of Me (Remix)" with Mya & Jay Z. This is one of the best songs of the Summer of 2000 and has Jay Z at his finest talking junk to the ladies. After that, with the exception of 3 songs, the rest of this CD is a hip hop extravaganza that any hip hop fan should enjoy. Beanie Sigel is up next with "The Club" which is another hit from Timbaland, who has no problem delivering the tight tracks to the Rocafella camp. If you don't believe me, ask Jay Z. This is a tight song from the rapper from Philly. All the DJ Clue regulars are featured on this soundtrack like The LOX w/ the Swizz Beatz' produced "Who Did You Expect", "Gotta Be A Thug" by Fabulous and "Come And Get It" w/Redman & Lady Luck. Other worthy contributions are made by The Cash Money Millionaires with "Millionaire", a Eve, Amil, Da Brat & Jay Z collabo with "Road Dawgs" and the tight collabo between Ja Rule, Lil Cease, & Memphis Bleek with "Crime Life". There is something for everyone on this soundtrack. You even get a Jay Z track that was never featured on any of his albums called, "Peoples Court", which has Jigga at his finest, once again. DJ Clue has really impressed me with this effort. Also, check out his "Professional Part 2" CD, which should be out by the end of the year. Clueminati!

2.0 out of 5 stars Clue's screaming makes a weak soundtrack even weaker, September 29, 2003

DJ Clue - Backstage: Hard Knock Life Soundtrack (Roc-a-Fella, 2000)

On this album, listen to Cam'Ron and Julez Santana's "Hate Music". That song is wack and its title is the best description of that song and the whole album.

There ARE some good songs on here they're all ruined by DJ Clue's tired catch phrases like "New Ish!", "Exclusive!", and so on. As a result, it's hard to get into otherwise dope cuts like Prodigy's Alchemist-produced "Keep It Thoro" and OutKast, Killer Mike and Slimm Calhoun's "Funkenella". The same story goes for Memphis Bleek's "My Mind Right" where Bleek disses Nas: "'Your life's written'/Who are you supposed to be?/Play your position" (by the way, who is Bleek to diss anyone?).

Another great song is ruined by Clue's rants, called "Best of Me (remix)" by Mya featuring Jay-Z. While the beat supplied by Trackmasters is outdated, Jay-Z spits fire: "Saying you got a man/Okay, ma, AND??/That's high school, making me chasing you 'round for months/Have an affair, act like an adult for once." Also, if you're listening to a track where you don't know what the name is or who's performing, don't worry because Clue will tell you (for example, "New Beanie Sigel!" "'In the Club'!!").

I guess it doesn't matter that much because most of the tracks on here are average (especially the Lox track). But it would have been less disappointing if they included the second verse to Jay-Z's unreleased "People's Court". There's really no point to this album anyway because it's a soundtrack to a movie about a concert tour, so my advice is to skip it. -EJR
