Soundclash does not deliver,

This review is from: DJ Dusk's Root Down Soundclash (DVD)
This is a great project! I mean it was a good idea but a bit disappointing when it came down to the actual battles. Madlib, throws on a beat and does some basic scraching the whole time, Exile fakes some doubles that are in the beat. Will.I.Am takes his shirt off and uses some hard korg to lace his beats and Thes One, dressed like Abe Lincoln, "made" a beat? using a Whirliszter? Oh No has a few thumpers and Cut Chemist, luckily, does a great job incorporating his beats scratching in the real samples. Its a great DVD to get into the Beat Battle scene and see Cut Chemist mix the original with his J5 cut!

A Slice of LA Hiphop History and Tribute to DJ Dusk,

This review is from: DJ Dusk's Root Down Soundclash (DVD)
This DVD captures some of the most epic and memorable moments at the legendary Root Down party in Los Angeles, California. Although the footage is raw and unedited, it's still a fine piece of documented history and features some of the most prominent hiphop producers on the left coast going head to head, beat for beat. The highlight for me is the Will.I.Am versus Thes One battle from 2002. A fine tribute to local legend, activist, teacher, and host of Root Down, DJ Dusk. The Root Down was never the same after Dusk left us. Rest In Power.
