5.0 out of 5 stars A masterful display of Andrea Parker's eclectic taste.
Yet another installation of the Dj-Kicks series and yet another winner.

This one comes with a diverse selection of electro, hip-hop and other things electronica from a DJ known for her dark compositions. Andrea Parker's eclectic tastes are showcased masterfully in this compilation.

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 cd changer required
Andrea Parker certainly has mutiple interests regarding music, ranging from breakbeats to house to trip hop, but you wouldn't know it from this album. The beat stays within the same range for all the songs so there's a monochromatic feel to this album even though she mixes everyone from Dr. Octagon to Dj Panic to Depeche Mode. The cd is quite good to chill out to,...

4.0 out of 5 stars DJ Kicks Series Again Proves Reliable, August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: DJ Kicks (Audio CD)
When it comes to buying Mix CDs, one should look no further than the DJ Kicks collection. Andrea Parker slices and dices with the best of them with fairly brooding and dark undercurrents. She opens with her (very good) mix of Depeche Mode's It's No Good and slides seamlessly into Dr. Octogan's Earth People...and it all seems perfectly appropriate and ecletic. Other times, transitions come off choppy. Parker's DJ Kicks lacks the overall sweeping collective of DJ Kicks contributions from Kruder & Dorfmeister and Thievery Corporation. Nonetheless, it is a fine body of work, that any electronic music listener would like to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars repeated listenings may bring tears, July 27, 1999

somehow in this mix Parker draws you through the full history of YOUR scene, or whatever, and makes you feel new again with its almost absolute refusal to descend into the irony which so often in my view plagues other attempts at mixing such an aged and eclectic set. Righteous Listening.

4.0 out of 5 stars A challenging and diverse selection of old rap and grooves, May 6, 2000
This review is from: DJ Kicks (Audio CD)
Eclecticism can be a bad thing; here it works perfectly. Andrea Parker starts off with her own mix of depeche mode, then moves smoothly into Kool Keith's earth people. This is a good representation of the disc: a combination of dark and moody dance tracks with glorious pre-gangsta sounding 70's-80's rap that's actually good even if you don't like rap.

The set continues with the whistles and vocal Psychedilico, and then comes right back with Hip Hop Be Bop and In the Bottle.

Not every track or combination works, but most do, and more importantly you won't find many mixes or sets like Andrea parker concocts. recommended!

Certainally not the best disc I've heard, I think the track selection is rather weak, and the CD has a very dark sound to it. It is well mixed, and has some good tracks on it, but it's certainally not my favorite.

This is one of the worst mixes I've ever heard. There is nearly zero continuity, and the selections are poorly sampled and often times, just corny! Don't waste your money.
