Interesting,

This review is from: DJ Tiesto - Another Day at the Office (DVD)
This is a pretty interesting look at the life of DJ Tiesto. He comes off as a cool, laid back guy who has a true passion for being a dj. The dvd has great concert footage and the interviews are pretty good as well. The cinematography is quite good considering that it is shot documentary style. The main things I didn't like were the subtitles they included, (in english, even though he and others are speaking english) which edited what the people said. For example someone might say "it was an amazing show tonight" and the subtitle would read" "i really enjoyed the show tonight." Annoying. They also could have had a bit more variety, maybe showing him in social settings other than him getting into a limo, meeting fans or walking backstage. It would have been nice to see where he lives, see him with his friends, etc. Overall, this is an informative and very watchable piece.

The Life And Loves Of DJ Tiesto,

Tijs Verwest aka DJ Tiesto's first commercially available DVD is finally released for general sale, entitled "Another Day At The Office", and it truly is what all DJ Tiesto Fans have been waiting for! The main feature of the DVD is a 76 minute documentary, which portrays Tiesto as a very relaxed and calm artist who is very passionate about his work, and his passion comes through his songs that are included in the documentary (mainly taken from his "In My Memory" and "Nyana" albums) and his interviews in which he discusses his biography...how he managed to become the world's premier DJ from starting out from getting his first decks and being a mobile DJ, to playing in Clubs, owning his own record shop, remixing songs for people such as Sarah McLachlan, The Dave Matthews Band and Moby, and producing his own compositions. The DVD also includes 68 minutes of extra features, including a 44 minute interview, in which he discusses both important issues, such as his giving helpful advice to aspiring DJs, and his views on drug taking in the club scene, to more trival issues, such as his pet cat! Also included in the bonus footage are the videos for "Flight 643" (Tiesto discusses the origin of the title in one of his many interviews) and "Lethal Industry". Omitted from the DVD are his videos for "Suburban Train / Urban Train" and "643 (Loves On Fire)" as he states that "they do not portray him as he is," whereas the two videos which are included are shot in Israel and Amsterdam, Holland, and show him as he wants to be seen...being a great DJ and remixer, and also a great performer, who performs with a great intensity and passion! I would recommend the DVD to all trance lovers out there, but if you like hard house/drum 'n bass..this may not be for you. It may be argued by some die-hard Tiesto fans that there is not enough of his live sets in the DVD package, but as the DVD is a documentary, this argument should not be valid; the main feature does its what it has set out to do and has come out with the goods, it features a few clips of live sets most notibly those from "ID&T Innercity" and his favourite residancy/club "Cream Amnesia" in Ibiza interwoven with the interviews to create a very well compiled/produced DVD. I cannot wait for the two DVDs out in September of his Concert!

Self Adulation Never a Good Thing !,

I was such a huge Tiesto fan until I saw this DVD. I bought it on the basis of other reviews but I guess I haven't yet joined the cult of P so have missed the point of the DVD. Tiesto is a master at what he does there is no doubt about that however after this DVD I have lost some respect for him. I thought from the DVD I would learn a little more about the man eg influences, inspiration etc etc. instead all I got was a DVD that showed yet again that the DJ has become greater than the music (and I won't debate the merits or otherwise of that) and endless shots of (mostly Americans) going on about how brilliant he is. This DVD is self adulation / promotion at its worst, all I can say is shame on you Tiesto making suckers out of your fans.

This is like VH1's "Behind The Music" for Tijs Verwest (a.k.a. DJ Tiesto). It is the first of it's kind (at least that I've seen) in the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre. Why, you ask? I'll tell you why. It chronicles his LIFESTYLE - an enviable lifestyle, at that. See where he grew up in Breda, Netherlands. See his record store, "Magik Musik", and meet DJs Cor Fijneman and Montana (who, consequently, are a starting to make a name for themselves these days in the EDM scene). See the Black Hole Recording Studio, where most of his club hits were erected. See him open his fan mail. See him open and listen to his promo records. Really, the only things you don't get to see him do in this video, are sleep (although he looks pretty fatigued at one point), use the toilet and make love. Other than that, you pretty much see it all. The reason I gave it a 5-star rating is because 1) it pioneered new territory in this genre, 2) it ranks high on the re-watchability scale (something that's very important to me), and 3) it contains a pretty gripping 45-minute interview (an "Extra" on the disc), where he and his interviewer stroll the streets of South Beach, Miami, and peruse a record store together. Sweet. Please feel free to disagree with my opinion. Let us compare opinions, invite a few more points of view, and debate, like the humans we are.

"I'm not really interested in meeting celebrities, I'm more interested in meeting normal people...because celebrities are... in their own world... they're all... you know-- most of them are[...]!" -TIESTO walking through town during an interview.
Classic comment--priceless! So much here to absorb, it is chilling to be this close to the one person who is second only to Santa Claus in being known to bring cheer to the world and the ONLY PERSON to actually do so! He is hopping around the globe as he ascends into super-stardom and much of that post-stardom can be seen on his website IN-THE-BOOTH. If you enjoy those snippets of him in-between shows, pre- and post-shows--you will really enjoy this. If you simply want music, live-shows, get "Tiesto in Concert 2 (2004)" and "Tiesto: Elements of Life World Tour." If you like being a TIESTO fan, this will make you GLAD to be his fan as there isn't a better person who deserves to be TIESTO than TIESTO himself! Much of it is raw like a diamond gem. TIESTO is at "home" enjoying "those Israelis"--"those Russians" and--"those Americans." He is possibly the first "Citizen of the World! "What, we enjoy the same type of fun?" Priceless behind-the-scenes footage: He hugs and kisses a girl! He also kisses a guy!? (But I think that was a cultural act and it was New Year's Eve (no tongue!)) It shows the first venue he played at, his record store, his studio, it shows he never goes to sleep!

a master at work,

This review is from: DJ Tiesto - Another Day at the Office (DVD)
this is tiesto, you can't get to know the master without fully appreciating his work, and if you buy this DVD hoping to get a glimpse at the real tiesto, then think again. If you are a fan, you should allready KNOW that tiesto is his music, and the music is him. Should you not understand the music, you will not understand who he is, what private life that he does have, (when he's not blowing us away with his music) he probably wants to keep, that's why they called it ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE....
on a finer point. the dvd is a great buy in my opinion. it would be a shame to love his music, without being able to see how he does it. |
