Awesome quadcopter. Have had now for about (2) months. Watch the instructions on the DJI website "http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-2/video" and its not that hard to put together or install. Only had experience with the Syma S107 (http://www.amazon.com/Syma-S107-S107G-Helicopter-Colors/dp/8499000606) and the DJI Phantom 2 is WAY EASIER to fly. The built in navigational system (NAZA) with GPS is insanely accurate once calibrated and allowed to get GPS lock onsite. Take off is as easy as left stick up...same for landing...left stick down. Do NOT calibrate your compass on metal objects (cars, etc). This will interfere with the signal and potentially cause flight malfunctions.

The copter is fairly robust yet lightweight. The Zenmuse H3-3d gimbal is probably the most fragile thing there so if this is your first time flying, I would recommend you fly WITHOUT the gimbal and GoPro a few time to get the hang of landing, taking off, and in the air flying controls. The only issue I have is the USB ribbon cable and connector from the gimbal to the GoPro is extremely flimsy and sensitive. To my knowledge, this is not needed especially if you are not adding a FPV setup to the mix. If you do install it and break it they are only about 5 bucks to fix (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1053706-REG/dji_part56_output_connection_cable_for.html).

When first purchased, I questioned myself, "Why in the world is this possibly worth over 1300 dollars?" Once you fly it and see how easy it can be to fly, then you will understand that DJI has meticulously implemented the algorithms into this device to make it dead simple and precise to fly. Fly forward at 30 to 35+ MPH and let off the stick and watch it halt to a stop with the GPS. Do complex aerial shots with practice.

I need basic instructions and am finding their instructions have not been basic enough for me. I'm a novice. I probably should have started with a Parrot. Now the GoPro camera is not working. It turns on and that's it; nothing works. I can't even turn it off unless I pull the battery. I have been in contact with GoPro. They gave me some things to try and I will do that when I can get back to it. Nothing is easy with this thing. If you want something easy, buy a Parrot (Which I might do. They are a lot cheaper). But if you are up to the challenges, have the money, and want grow and do some really cool stuff, get this unit. There is more to buy if you want to see what the camera sees while flying. I found that out after I bought it. But I'm not sorry I bought it. It's fun to fly. It is a growing and learning process. Get a spare battery if you want to fly it more than 20 minutes. They give you spare propellers. I have already used one after flying into some trees. Growing and learning...

Really cool! Pratice a lot before adding the camera. It would be wise to bundle the gopro lens guard with this.

Where to start? Well perhaps with the quad itself. Go to photography bay's website and read the insurmountable accounts of fly aways. I personally experienced it thrice without rhyme or reason. When I explained it developing a mind of it's own to the seller I was met with an attitude of disbelief and assurance it was user error. Paid for repairs got it back after an excuciatingly long waiting period, did the syncs, fired it up and it flew away straight into a tree, damaging the gimbal. Now this is getting expensive. I was so sick of dealing with the dealer that I brought it in to a local hobby shop where he gawked at how much I paid the dealer for the repairs. I sent the gimbal back to the dealer and bought a new one from the hobby shop to save time. Now I'm squared away with a new shell and h33d gimbal. I bring it to a job, fly it very conservatively, bring it back to land, start slowly coming down and BZZZZ! Full speed straight into a neighboring building destroying everything. I smell a class action lawsuit cooking and considering the number of accounts without care being provided, this company will crash too. I want a full refund!

This particular model of the DJI Phantom series was, actually, a little disappointing. I mistakenly thought that I would be able to stream video live to my phone and that proved to be very problematical. It seems that the strength of the WIFI that is default to the transmitter/controller is not sufficient to carry the video stream more than about 50-100 feet. That makes it difficult or impossible to fly the machine out of sight... such as around a tree or over a commercial building rooftop. The machine flys fine, but, the overall experience has been disappointing.

Assembly was pretty straight forward, however, the assembly instructions are brief and vague. Fortunately, there is a lot of videos on Youtube that answer the questions that the documentation leaves unanswered.

I previously had a phantom1. I was hoping the upgrade was worth the money, and brother was it. This thing flies forever, and the 3d gimbal is amazing. The setup is easy, and the calibrations and firmware upgrades are a snap too. The new phantom2 seems to have much improved flight characteristics over the Phantom1. The extra weight of the gimbal does not seem to affect the performance at all. The hardest part was trying to decide if I wanted blue stripes or orange. I went with orange.
