More About the Author

It was BBC Radio 1's 1996 "Ibiza Essential Mix" that transformed me from clubber to wannabe DJ. Fascinated by what I heard, I bought a second hand pair of turntables, my best friend's record collection, and started to follow the dream of becoming my newest hero, Sasha.

With no other resource available when I first started DJing, I'd take notes, writing articles to refer to if ever I felt like I needed help. Joining the internet revolution meant 15mb of free web space, and as I'd already written these notes about learning how to DJ, I thought it would be good to share that information with the rest of the world wide web. This meant creating the 'Recess' persona, and expanding the site as my knowledge grew. Originally a small, basic website, www.recess.co.uk has grown over the years both in size and reputation, to become one of the foremost online resources for learning how to DJ, the place where newbie DJ's turn to.

I really love teaching people how to be better DJs, so much so that I've found myself leaning more towards that than playing live recently - culminating in taking 9 months out to write this book.

I picked up the book a week ago.
You know what? I liked it a lot better than "How to Dj Right".
For the beginner dj the books explains in detail what a lot of us might be embarrassed to ask.
The first few sections of the book seemed a tad slow for me. Maybe because I've already got my gear and know the basics. After a few days I decided to re-read the first parts of the book and what do you know, I learned something new. Worth every penny

DJ CP (South Beach) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DJing for Dummies (Paperback)
I've never read one of the "... for Dummy" books before so I was unsure of how basic they break down a topic. "DJing for Dummies" was thorough, from selecting equipment to beatmatching, from demo creation to club management relations. It is an EASY read but doesn't "talk down to the reader". I have been DJing for 12 years and, although I knew most of the contents of the books through self teaching and experience, there were still many tidbits of information that I 1) never knew, 2) forgot or 3) wasn't doing it per the book's recommendation. If you are a beginner, this book will certainly help you get on your way into the business. If you're a seasoned DJ, this book can still be a great reference for you. Hey, it even inspired me to splurge on a new MIXER !!! : )) Highly recommended!!!!
