To truly enjoy this book, you may want to invest in a full-page magnifier. A book twice the size, with the same information on each page would be ideal, but may make it impractical for casual home reference when you are looking up specific areas. A magnifier allows you to access the same information, although I must admit to wishing the print was larger and that this book was at least twice the size. The binding and the paper quality seem fine for the price.

The colors are beautiful and small photographs appear throughout to provide entertainment. It is probably fair to say that you won't spend a lot of time looking at the actual maps once you have located an area of interest, but that you may want to expand your knowledge of the areas by reading the extra information surrounding the map. There are landform diagrams, cross-sections, transportation and industry maps, views of the earth's natural resources, and landscape evolution maps.

If you find small print somewhat daunting, this may not be for you unless you have a full-page magnifier. I definitely will be investing in one if I decide to read this from cover to cover. Which is very unlikely in reality, but does seem like a fun dream. So, if you consider how infrequently an Atlas is typically used (although my husband reads one daily) then you can decide if buying a more expensive Atlas is worthwhile. I will continue to wish for an Atlas that is double the size because I dislike having to use a magnifier.

I have checked around and if you want detail, DK is the best I could find. Concise has a few less pages but the maps appeared the same, perhaps just less filler

The book was a gift for a young person who from what i was told found the book very interesting and helpful.
