4.0 out of 5 stars Beekeeper's Nephew, December 11, 1999
This review is from: DK Readers: Busy, Buzzy Bee (Level 1: Beginning to Read) (Paperback)
I have a 5 year old nephew I see occasionally. He knows I am a beekeeper and is fascinated, bombarding his grandmother with honeybee questions. The rating on this book is level 1 for pre-school and grade 1- Beginning to read. I think this is a little agressive for that level as many of the words are rather specific to the topic and not commonly used by this age children. I think it would be suitable for older or precocious children with a larger vocabulary. The pictures are actual photographs of good quality and dominate the page. The pictures include details of the "stuff" of the interior of the beehive and accurate descriptions. Closeups of grubs and adult honeybees will hold his interest long after the reading has been commonplace.

5.0 out of 5 stars DK Readers are the bomb!, July 11, 2007

This review is from: DK Readers: Busy, Buzzy Bee (Level 1: Beginning to Read) (Paperback)
We have this book, along with ones on butterflies, firemen, and truck drivers. My son loves them all. The pictures are great. There's a lot of information, but it's not over his head. Great for 2 1/2 and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for children interested in the world around them, March 18, 2007
This book has great imagery, a story-line about a particular busy bee to keep the child's interest from page to page. It was a delight to see specific vocabulary in regard to the life and activities of a bee. Young children will learn the basics of how honey is made, how bees communicate and their general life cycle.

By the way, my 4 year old son loves this book! As most other young children, he has a sense of awe about the world and is full of questions.
