This is a great book for young children thinking of getting a dog for a pet. It shows that taking care of an animal is lots of work as well as fun!

The fun and responsability of a pet!, October 1, 2007
This review is from: DK Readers: Surprise Puppy (Level 1: Beginning to Read) (Paperback)
This engaging story for young children beginning to read will entertain and delight them as they see a pair of twins take care of a puppy as a favor for their Dad's friend. Wags, as the kids name him, turns out to be fun, playful, but lots of work! He has to be walked, fed, bathed and supervised so that he won't slip out the garden gate.
The children are surprised to discover that Wag's visit was really a test to see if they are ready to handle a dog, and they pass with flying colors, earning the respect of their parents and, of course, getting to keep the dog as part of the family.
Cute photographs and a "Picture word list," make Surprise Puppy a winner -- both fun and educational.
