Use this guide as a resource to augment whatever tastings or classes you're attending, or as a chance to bone up on the basics before you head off to your first tasting. The Wine Tasting Tips section, mostly composed of QuickTime video clips, offers a great "hands-on" view of the essentials of the tasting process. Here you can discover the proper glasses, bottle-opening procedures, and tasting techniques--all of which, when combined, are the epitome of wine presentation. It also offers videos of 16 different wines tasted personally by Oz, giving you an idea of how wines are judged, described, and savored.
From there, you may want to visit the Wine Encyclopedia or Wine Atlas. Both of these text-based options provide important vineyard classifications, geographical information, and useful wine terminology. This information all comes in handy later when using the Wine Selector. Here you can search for the perfect wine by region, grade variety, style, star rating, and food match. This is very helpful for those of us who have settled for an old standby or who have never gone beyond Ernest and Julio Gallo. Results of your search include the name, producer, best years, and tasting notes--all essential in making your final decision.
Finally, Clark assists you in matching your wine with your food. He offers suggestions for pairing wines with soups, sauces, pastas, meats, and even ethnic cuisine. As with the rest of the program, this information is neatly organized and at your fingertips, giving you the tools to approach wines with a new knowledge and appreciation. --Madeleine Miller

= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: DK ULTIMATE WINE GUIDE (CD-ROM)
This software says it will run on any version of Mac OSX - it will not. Apparently, it will not run on a Mac with Intel Core Duo either and the tech support in the US is disabled. There is an international tech support number that costs a $5 charge to use and really wouldn't be worth it in the first place. The box also said there would be a website with tech support and there is no support offered on sed website. Poor support and after looking at the accessible parts of the CD rom - very pixelated videos.
