Great for very small music collections,
This review is from: DLO Homedock Music Remote (Electronics)
I had been eyeing the Keyspan Tuneview for months, but decided to hold out for another system. When DLO released this device I decided to pull the trigger. After purchasing it and getting everything hooked up (which was easy), I could not get the iPod to synch with HomeDock. After trying every trouble shooting tip in the manual and trying a few of my own, I decided to email DLO to find out if I just had a defective system. Turns out you can only synch upto 50 playlists and 200 artists. I exceeded the artists by about 3X. I do appreciate DLO getting back to me so I could return the system. Hopefully they will increase the memory very soon. I decided to write a review so others understand the limitations... and DLO decides to improve their product.

Capacity Limit,
By SteveF (Abu Dhabi, UAE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DLO Homedock Music Remote (Electronics)
In theory this is a fantastic device, and for those with low capacity iPods or small music collections it works as advertised, but if like me you have a 60GB or larger ipod that is almost full you will almost certainly be affected by the device's limit of 50 playlists and 200 artists.
As far as i can see this information is not documented on DLO's website (the FAQs state that you can "Browse and select your entire iPod music library from up to 150 feet away on the compact Music Remote") or in the user manual and it took an email to DLO's customer service to find this out.

Cool little product.,
This review is from: DLO Homedock Music Remote (Electronics)
After digitizing my 150+ lp collection begun in the late '60's and ripping all my CDs, I placed all my music of the past 40+ years onto an 80GB "Classic" i-pod. With the i-pod in the DLO dock, I now have complete access to all that music from anywhere in my house played through my home stereo system. The unit installed quickly and without problems. The initial transfer of data from the i-pod to the remote took only a few minutes. The remote works at considerable distance. It is actually smaller than I had expected. The OLED screen is really nice and bright. Battery life is excellent. On the downside, many functions require one click more than intuitively you think they should and it is a shame that only songs by artist are provided. You can't select songs by album. Those things aside, this is a cool device offering a much-needed viewscreen to the remote, a feature lacking from most remotes for i-pod docking stations.

Suckered!,
By Frasier Fanatic (Wexford, Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DLO Homedock Music Remote (Electronics)
I just arrived back in Ireland after buying this device in Florida and I hate everything about it. It tells me it's out of range when it's right beside the docking unit. It can't handle the number of artists I have on my iPod (almost 1,000). If it's designed for the nano or iTouch, it should say so on the pack, because it doesn't work adequately with an 80-gig Classic. I feel suckered and cheated (though at least with the exchange rate, it didn't cost much in euro). All I wanted was a simple remote to tee up the next song in a chosen playlist. Once again, I've bought a device scuppered by complexity, when simplicity was all that was required.

Uh....Awesome....!!!!! goes through walls!!!!!..BUT...,

I needed a remote that I could play from outside in my driveway or yard as I have speakers outdoors. This thing works great. There was an issue that I finally figured out - I thought the first I had was broken and took it back. The 2nd one I got did the same thing. Here' what it is...
The remote stays 'linked' for about 20 seconds and then 'goes to sleep'. I had trouble getting it to connect again (actually wouldn't). I had to put a paperclip in the bottom to reset it!!! happened all the time - had to carry a paper clip around... finally realized that if you hit the middle MENU button before any other buttons were hit - - it would 'wake up' and connect. So just have to do that. If you hit any other button first, it will die and you have to re-connect with the paper clip. Probably doesn't make much sense... this is the only unit i found that works through walls at the distance needed....

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this product due to the remote control with digital display. I thought that would be amazing to have!
When I plugged the base into my Bose system all I heard was static. I played with the different input ports with no success. Also, the remote kept saying it was out of range, even after loading the the music onto it, with the remote right next to the dock. I ended up returning this piece of junk and bought a $6.99 cable on eBay that works PERFECTLY! Even though it would be nice to have a digital display, my 12-foot cable is working just fine...and was a heck of a lot cheaper than the HomeDock. I'm really disappointed. I know this isn't the first generation of this product so I'm amazed it's such poor quality. The economy is tough now...save your money and buy a nice long cable. :-)

This product was bad out of box. Returned item to DLO, with no information availible from DLO with status for over 2 weeks.DLO now claims it was sent out in the US mail and now over 2 weeks lost. I am very dissatisfied with this product and DLO themselves.I am a power limited Technician and deal with suround and central audio systems in commercial and residential construction, but this piece will not be included in myy future installations. I am glad I fought with this instead of one of my customers!!!.Which if I may add , is the only bright spot in this ordeal.

The non functional DLO,

The remote didn't work from the start. Checked the signal strength per the manual and none detecked. Therefore, the display continuously displayed Out of Range. As you see from the other reviews, any product that has this low a quality control doesn't belong on the shelf.

Neat idea, poorly executed.,
By Canghuixu (California) - See all my reviews

I have had this for several months. When it works, it is quite neat. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the sync process by which the new information on the iPod is transmitted to the remote is very flaky. Every time I add music to my iPod, the information has to be download to the remote, and that never goes smoothly. Usually I seem to have to reboot both the remote and the iPod several times before it works. And if I put my wife's iPod in the dock, that requires a new synch, with all the problems.
Also because the remote is small, and the browsing is done locally based on information stored in the remote, the browsing capability is pretty limited. The remote doesn't reproduce the iPod menus, rather it has a smaller set of selections. It is OK if you just want to fire up a play list or find a specific album, but overall quite limited. I now have a Philips iPod dock plus universal remote and I am much happier with that.

Wonderfully useful device,
By Seattle Guy "Seattle Guy" (Seattle, Washington USA) - See all my reviews

DLO Homedock Music Remote My first purchase of this device failed out of the box. I exchanged it for a new one. This one worked fine. I use this to remotely control my playlist that was created on itunes for my Nano 8GB. It is very effective and easy to use. It works anywhere in the house and outside the house as well. It is great for parties because I control the music and I keep it in my pocket so I'm the boss of the music! Of course, it has its limitations in terms of how many playlists and how many artists, etc. But within those limitations I love it! If you get a defective one, just exchange it! As to the fellow whose review stated that there was an "out of range" message and they were just next to the device; well, that happens periodically. Just go back to the main menu and start over and it fixes it.
