Great, but "some disassembly may be required?",
This review is from: DLO HipCase Folio for iPod nano 3G (Black) (Electronics)
Like the previous reviewer, I also used DLO's 2G iPod nano case, then upgraded to the 3G iPod nano and this case.
It's a fine product, fits easily on a belt, and is pretty unobtrusive. There's one problem (shared with the old 2G version) that's mildly annoying to me - the clear plastic covers both the screen *and* the wheel. It is possible to use the wheel under the plastic, but not easily or with much precision. My simple solution was to manually cut out a hole in the plastic for the wheel, and this works well enough. Curiously, another DLO product, the 3G "armband" holder, has the "wheel hole" already uncovered.

Good Case, Tight Fit, Error on Package,
This review is from: DLO HipCase Folio for iPod nano 3G (Black) (Electronics)
I just bought the case yesterday and my nano 3g today. It seems to be as good a quality as the one I had for my nano 2g. However, the fit does seem tighter than I remember the one for the 2g.
NOTE: The packaging says "Full access to all controls, Click Wheel and dock connector." The part about the dock connector is wrong. The wording was changed for Amazon and the DLO website. There is part of the case where access to the dock connector would be.

Fatal flaws,

The leather on this case is very nice. The case has two major flaws, however--
1) It is too tight. you have to take the ipod out to charge it and this is way too hard to do.. 2) The plastic cover inside which is supposed to provide extra protection doesn't work - It sticks to the face of the ipod in odd ways so that when you glide your finger in one direction over the wheel, the plastic film sticks, then unsticks itself. This is interpreted by the nano as your finger continuing to glide on the wheel, only in the opposite direction. This results in a little comedy routine - you glide your finger in one direction on the wheel to move down a menu, say. As soon as you pick your finger up. the plastic cover peels itself off the wheel and the menu selection moves back up to where you started. Thus begins the great battle of the plastic film. You try to outsmart it, moving past your menu choice in the hope that when you lift you finger it will go back to what you really wanted. On and on. It is SO frustrating that I end up taking my ipod out of the case to do simple things like change the volume or select a song. And remember, it is NOT easy to take the nano out of the case. All in all, a loser. Avoid this case.

I have the DLO HipCase Folio for the iPod Nano and although it has some good features, it has a fatal flaw in that the back ripped apart after only a couple months of use. Fortunately the clip held, but this shouldn't happen.
I emailed DLO about this problem and received no repsonse. It is also very difficult to adjust the volume with the click wheel. Half the time I end up changing the selection I am playing.

This case is everything I wanted, but with two alterations. Love the leather feel and the magnetic flap. It's great to wrap the earphones around. The belt clip works just the way I wanted it to work, since I clip in to the bib of my work overalls. But there was no opening to plug the big connector to the bottom of the nano and the clear plastic cover over the selector wheel was too much. Nothing an exacto knife couldn't fix, if you get my drift. Love it, now. Perfect for me.

Case is well-made, but there is NO access to the IBS port without removing the iPod from the case. This process was difficult and frustrating due to the tightness; however, within several days of use, the ipod became much easier to remove. Easy access to lock button and earphone jack. I have no trouble using the click wheel through the plastic window. Case is very good protection for iPod, and easy to wear on belt. Overall, I am very pleased with this item.

Just recieved my order from J&R Music. Very happy with both the product and the quick shipping time. This folio is just what I was looking for. The ipod fits snuggly and the clip holds tight on the pocket. I've never been disappointed with anthing I've ordered from Amazon or the sellers that sell thru Amazon.

I wanted to find an easy to access case that could be clipped to my workout pants without weighing me down... The DLO Hip Case was the best model sampled. The magnetic cover makes opening and closing the case a breeze and the belt loop holds the Nano securely. The leather is also surprisingly nice quality.

This case looks great and really protects the iPod nano. I can carry my nano in my briefcase without worrying about it moving around and getting damaged. When you listen to the nano it looks like you're holding a cell phone. The main drawback at first is getting the nano in and especially out of the case -- it's a very tight fit, but it seems to stretch with use. And you have to take it out of the case to charge it or connect it to a computer (the dock is covered, probably a good idea because if the dock is damaged you're in big trouble). A good deal for the price overall and I've already bought another for a friend.

High quality soft leather used, but don't buy it for the belt attachment, it broke as soon as I tried to use it. However, the leather case is quality and smells beautiful. The plastic on the inside is awful, use a penknife to take it out and the case is so much better. For the price it's good, but the other wallet style cases may be slightly better. |
