Homedock Deluxe? Almost.. Not Quite,
By D Boisman ""musicman"" (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DLO HomeDock Deluxe 3G for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
This is the third generation homedock deluxe from DLO and it is the best so far, but still a few issues that should've been addressed being a muti generation unit. It is one of the only docks that I found to hook up to my tv to navigate my music and videos stored on my ipod. If you don't have many songs on your ipod or don't care about seeing the song names and album covers on your tv than this may not be the dock for you. If your like me (musically insane) and have massive amounts of music to browse through or if you like the party setting so your guests can see the artist and song names that are playing, than this is one of your only choices on the market today. This dock works pretty much as advertised, with a few noted exceptions: Album art: thumbnail loads instantly, larger format takes about 40 seconds to load and while it loads you are stuck... ie: no skipping songs/browsing your catalog of goods. Remote is a little tempermental and sometime gets a mind of it's own when browsing categories, skipping tracks, ect... The remotes range is pretty sad, even with new batteries the angles are horrible and you must be straight on to use it. DLO has an upgrade to "fix" these issues. In trying todo the firmware upgrade i've blown two docks and am on my third unit. (the other two were exchanged at the store where I purchased) I tried to contact DLO by email from their web site and unfortunatley after three days I discontinued trying (you just can't count on good tech support nowdays!!!) But, even with the aforementioned downfalls this is still a desent unit and addresses my needs for the time being.

Bad video output,
This review is from: DLO HomeDock Deluxe 3G for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
This product looked to have a lot of potential, and probably can do some cool things for the money, however its video output was defective out of the box (had a very fuzzy video feed)...additionally it should have the ability to jump/search alphabetically as lots of music equals lots of frustration.

I originally purchase the DLO HomeDeck 3.0 to replace a previously purchased DLO HomeDeck that wouldn't operate properly due to the remote not functioning. I was disappointed with my new DLO when it kept blinking on my screen because my TV (1999 model) couldn't handle the on-screen menu function. Because it couldn't bring the menu functions on the TV, nor play a movie withont blinking every 5 seconds; my DLO became an over price charger. In future they should allow for the on-screen menu to be an option to turned off or on.

I love this product when it works. But I continually have trouble getting the power to turn on, and sometimes when it's been playing for a while it conks out and an annoying hum is played at a high level.

We bought this brand new a year ago and used it very little. The remote broke over the Christmas season, so I emailed customer service. They said no parts, including remote, are available, which makes the whole system unusable. You have to have a remote to turn it on and off - no power button on the unit. I bought new batteries, thinking it was just a dead battery, but no, the remote died. $150 about a year ago and completely unuseable system today, which no option to replace the remote.

Sometimes it works; sometimes not,
This review is from: DLO HomeDock Deluxe 3G for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
After returning two Kensingtons that were non-ops right out of the box, I settled on this pricey DLO item. The sound quality if fine. The video has such lag that it's pretty silly to try to use it. The remote is a cheap and iffy affair. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Soemtimes it won't turn the base unit on, which lets you use the remote for volume control, forward/reverse, mute etc., and sometimes it simply won't turn the unit on. Luckily, one can still play music through the Ipod on this unit even when it's not turned on but plugged in.Shortly, the remote and the base just stopped working. My recommendation: If all you want is sound, then get a cables-to-go ipod dock when they're on sale for $25 -- they ain't fancy but they work as well as these $60-$200 docks. Not great for video but good for sound. If you absolutely have to have Ipod video through your TV, try the apple dock -- the build quality is reasonable even though the prices are not and, if you can't get it to work, at least then you know who you're ranting at when you get to the Genius Bar at the apple store (you have to hand it to apple for brute sarcasm ;) ).

DLO HomeDock Deluxe 3G For iPod,

This was a good addition to my home entertainment center. All of the cables needed for installation were supplied in the package of the item purchased. After reading feedback from other reviews regarding installation issues and corrective actions, I had no problem getting this item set up. The instructions that accompanied this item did not cover or provide this detail.I have not tried the video yet but the audio sound quality being channeled though my amplifier is very good. There is some lag time on the remote control response and there is a little delay in uploading album cover art to the tv screen. The screen savers are OK, but the graphics are a little hoakey. I would like to see the screen saver with album cover art displayed bigger. I knew what I was buying based upon other reviews that I had read. The item was a little pricey and the features could be improved. It's functional and filled a need that I had with my entertainment system so I'm not disappointed with my purchase.

I am completely unhappy with this vendor. This DLO Homedock Deluxe I-Pod device was ordered on June 1, 2010 and received defective. This product would not operate. I contacted the seller who stated this never happen before and instructed me to send this item back to them. I shipped the back to them on June 8, 2010 which cost me $11.41.When I requested that they reimburse for the postage; they denied it. They later informed me that the item was out of stock and they would issue a check only for the amount I originally paid. After several email and the story was the check was sent to the wrong address. I finally received the check on July 8, 2010. I think this company operates out of a garage and Amazon.com should reimburse me for the $ 11.40 postage but they probaly will not.

I've had this unit for two or three weeks now and so far it's working pretty much as advertised. The remote can be a little quirky but I haven't had the experience some others have had.DLO has a firmware upgrade for this unit but be aware that the updating software does not work on Windows 7. Fortunately, I also have a Windows XP machine and was able to install the updates. The dock works fine with both my iPod Touch and my regular (5th gen) iPod. Video output seems just fine, though I don't have high expectations for video coming out of an iPod. But I'm not really using it for video anyway. As another reviewer noted, this unit doesn't seem to charge the iPod Touch though it does charge my other iPod. I bought mine from one of the other sellers on Amazon. I got it "new" for $19.99 so from my point of view, this was the best iPod accessory I've bought. I say "new" because it didn't seem to me that the package looked new. Plus, the cables, etc. were loose in the box and not tied up with wire ties or packaged in plastic bags as one would expect with a new product. But all the parts were there and it works. For $20 I can't complain.

I've had this for 2 weeks. So far, I have good experience on it and will rate it 4.5 stars (round it to 5 stars because there is no 4.5 option). I read through other negative reviews. I think those negative reviews are kind of biased (some reviews did not provide any reason.)A previous review says "sometimes works, sometimes not". I guess the reason was the user did not really point the remote to the base unit. Keep in mind this is IR remote not RF remote. When I point this remote to the base unit, I have no problem turning it on and off. The video quality is fine. I have not experience any video playback problem. We love to see the video clips of our kids in our ipod on TV. The whole family have lots of fun with this dock. You should not expect HD video quality because the video quality in your ipod is not HD. The sound quality is excellent. I connect my unit to my home theater. You don't have to output the menu to your TV (you could though). But when you connect it to your TV, you could see the list of the songs on TV. You could press the "down" button to fast scroll to other music. The remote looks nice and the built quality is good. There are many buttons on the remote (you could even shuffule songs using your remote). You can store the remote on the base unit so that you don't lose it. But it is IR remote, that means you have to point it to the unit to control your albumn. It will be nice to make it RF. (For this reason, I take 0.5 star off my rating.) The look is nice in my opinion. It does not look cheap at all. It works with my iPod classic 120GB (6th Gen). It can play the contents in my ipod touch 2nd gen but it can't charge it. I heard some comment that if you have older version of itouch firmware (older than 3.0), then you could charge your itouch. Overall, I am satisfied with this unit. |
