Should only cost $89 - poor design and quality,
By
This review is from: DLO iBoom Boombox for iPod White (Electronics)
I bought the iBoom for $149 (Target) and the InMotion for $109 (Sams)and compared the two side by side. The Inmotion sounded better (crisp and clean with adequate bass) and the iBoom sounded hollow and slightly muffled. I also noticed a distinct static or hissing sound when the iBoom was played at lower volume and in between songs. None from the InMotion. Also, I noticed how cheap the iBoom's plastic housing and control knobs were. They resembled those of a child's toy. My intention was to purchase the iBoom to use on the deck and at the beach, but I was curious about the InMotion and I am impressed. I hope DLO gets their act together and improves these silly design issues. I would only pay $149 if :
better speakers (clarity) detachable AC cord Higher quality housing and knobs include a remote control I will be returning the iBoom tomorrow and keeping the InMotion. I don't think the InMotion is perfect. It's not designed to be carryed around like a boombox. My primary need is to use on the deck, hotel, and at the beach. I can't believe Sony, Sharp, JVC or any of the others haven't designed some form of Ipod compatible boom box....come on guys you're missing $$$$$$. Hope this is helpful.

Do. Not. Buy. This. Ever. Never. Never.,

I went to the electronics store with my mind set on the Altec Lansing InMotion. But oh, how I was lead astray by the "helpful" salespeople that brought me to this. I liked it because it had a radio; InMotion does not, and I do like the radio sometimes. It sounded pretty great in the big, huge store... So I ditched my plan and went for it.
I brought it home and I wanted to cry. It sounded horrible in my bedroom. It was FUZZY. On the box it says that there will be some noise/fuzz/a bit of static/whatever when the iPod is switching songs, but I found that this static happened even during the songs, and was especially noticable when the volume was turned down; the fuzz distracts from any musical enjoyment. I couldn't listen to my music down low; it only sounded halfway decent when it was turned up full-blast. Bottom line: it is way over-priced for what it is. Maybe I would understand if it were 50 bucks. But it's not. I didn't give it back to the store... I gave it to my kid brother. I guess he's not as picky about sound quality as I am, or you should be. Don't buy this. As for me, it's back to my FM transmitter and my old trusty stereo, for now.

Serves purpose--needs better battery/cord compartment design,
By Sharon (Grand Rapids, Michigan) - See all my reviews

The iBoom has acceptable sound--good enough for a hotel room or a camper. The volume can be fairly loud but it sounds poor when turned to the maximum volume.
Reception of FM stations in my area is quite good. I agree with a prior reviewer about the battery/electrical cord compartment design. It's the biggest drawback of this unit. The electrical cord will not detach and it must be tucked tightly into the back of the battery compartment before you can insert the batteries. If you need to use the electrical cord, the batteries must be removed to access it.

Radio good Sound Bad,
This review is from: DLO iBoom Boombox for iPod White (Electronics)
Bought this because I wanted an easy way to connect my ipod to a boombox. The speakers are horrible. It only gets FM no AM. Plays everything at almost the same volume. Turn the music up and there is way too much distortion. Turn the music down and the speakers simply cut out. Returning it today

Alternatives (Quality/Cost) justify looking elsewhere,

The concept is strong. The size is good, The design is a little predictable. Portability is nice, and the FM radio is a nice feature. Operation is simple. But the sound-the reason you are contemplating buying this product- is just not there. If you want great full sound either spend the money for the Bose speaker with the built in ipod dock, or concider the JBL desk top speakers. I purchased the iboom, was so disappointed I gave it to my young daughter-she uses her mini ipod and likes it, if she spent her money for it she also might be disappointed. I then puchased the JBL Encounter at just a few more dollars-thru Amazon, and honestly couldn't be happier. Much more worth it to give up the FM radio for the excellent sound quality.

Not well developed,
By
This review is from: DLO iBoom Boombox for iPod White (Electronics)
I was very excited when I ordered the iboom for Christmas but disappointed when it arrived.
My main problem is the power cable and battery area. The power cable should be detachable and there shoud be a car adapter available. The power cable gets in the way when you decide to use batteries. This IS a BIG problem. The cable should either tuck away neetly or be removeable. The iboom doesn't take advantage of the dock connector! When docked. the iPod shoud be controlled be the iBoom's controls but isn't.

For $90, It's not bad, but it isn't BOSE either.,
By

Look folks, the iBoom is defnitely not a BOSE system, and especially not for $90, but if it's portability you want (which is what I was after), the iBoom fits the bill. Yes, it's not the highest quality sound, but after all, you're not buying surround sound here.
I wanted something that I could play my iPod through, other than my Mac G5, and I wanted to be able to take it in the car, on the beach or in my office, and that's exactly what the iBoom does. I would agree that the fact that the AC cord being non-accessible when batteries are installed is an inconvenience, but that isn't enough for me to give it less than 3 stars. As far as the review that said the iPod "moves" in the slot, c'mon, are you really going to sit there and wobble your iPod and risk damaging the connection slot? Mine might move a sixteenth on an inch if I physically wobble it, but if I don't touch it, guess what? It doesn't move! As far as sound goes, I'd give it a 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. On portability, I give it a four out of five, because it does exactly what I need it to do.

Worth the price.....,

If you get it for 60 bucks like I did. I bought mine at Target on the clearance rack for 59.99 & for that price I am quite happy. The machine is cheaply made but it gets the job done, it lets me listen to my 5g 30gb Ipod on the go. I could not imagine paying 150 dollars for this but at 60 dollars I could not pass it up. I paid 35 dollars for my Ipod case & 50 dollars for the Apple Remote so 60 is quite good......
If you can get it for 70 dollars or lower go for it, anything over that is too steep. The product is just not that well crafted to justify paying any more than 70 bucks.

DLO iBoom, Great for on the go tunes!,
By
This review is from: DLO iBoom Boombox for iPod White (Electronics)
It is not the greatest stereo, but it has okay sound. The best part is its portability, and the fact it acts as a charger for the iPOD. Not a bad purchase for a $100 boombox.

Not for Office Use,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DLO iBoom Boombox for iPod White (Electronics)
Like many other reviewers, I bought this unit with the intent of being able to play my ipod softly while working. However, there is not "soft" volume on this at all. If you're in a quiet office, it is much too loud to even turn on.
Everything else about the iBoom is good. I am happy with it and will be able to use it in my bathroom while getting ready for work. But if you're looking only for something for the office, do not buy this, look for alternatives. |
