Stereo Speaker Bargain, November 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: B & W DM602 Series II Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) (Electronics)
After listening to many different speakers, I found they fell into three categories: 1) Cheap, and terrible sounding. 2) Expensive, and great sounding. 3) Expensive, and terrible sounding. Then, I listened to a set of B&W DM601s, and was hooked. They aren't cheap, but they are affordable. They sound as good as some prestige speakers costing $1,500 dollars more. I couldn't do better for the price!

Sweet Sounds, June 7, 2002
This review is from: B & W DM602 Series II Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) (Electronics)
My wife and I bought our 602s before Amazon carried them from a local hi-fi shop. We actually took the 602s and a few other pairs home to test out over a few days in our house. First off, every pair of speakers we took home sounded good in the store. We spent a few hours there listening to music and DVDs to get an idea of what we liked. When we got home, we quickly found that some speakers were so accurate that you could start to hear the short comings in our own equipment. I didn't think my $400 receiver was bad until I had some $900 speakers hooked up. Ouch! I would strongly urge anyone considering B&W speakers to listen to them personally first. No matter how good speakers are rated, personal preference should guide your final decision. That said, B&W should definately be on your list especially if you're buying your first set of "real" speakers.

When I stepped into an audio store, I said show me all your speakers that are under $500/pr. What I found was pure clearity, superb hi treble and an accurate mid-range. B&W602 there is nothing like it, it sounds great for all types of music. But when it comes to hard beats from rap to heavy metal you will need a subwoofer to get that thundering bass sounds. But why kill your ear drums? B&W602 produces all the sounds that you expect to hear right from the recording studio. While many others speakers under $500 simply loose or degrade certain tones. Also I would like to add that the parts they've included are excellent (they didn't stop half way). The cone material is made from bullet proof vests and the connectors are gold plated!

A true hi-fi bargain, November 17, 1999

I was surprised to see speakers of this level of quality on Amazon.com; B&W speakers are generally reserved for hi-fi specialty boutiques (although B&W's more expensive lines have not made it to this site). Forget the mass-market brands out there--none of them are in the same league as the B&W DM600 series.

Will startle those with an ear for quality, November 16, 1999

I was introduced to B&W at an hi-end stereo store. This speakers, I was told are well-known in Europe, and are used predominately in Europes' classical recording studios. Seated in the showroom, I closed my eyes, the salesman randomly switched between different speakers as the receiver played the CDs I had brought. I was amazed to find I had selected these bookshelf speakers over larger floor models. Back home I quickly knew I made the correct choice. When I removed them from the box, the solid brass connections were perfect companions when linked with monster cables to my A/V receiver. The solid feel and the real wood (black ash) finish blended nicely with my leather furniture. And as I played my discs (video and audio),the sound filled the room as never before. If you can hear, and many of us can't, you will appreciate these outstanding loudspeakers. Treat yourself.

Very clean and crisp sounding speakers. I have them hooked up to a Toshiba SD-3109 DVD Player and Sony STR-DA50-ES Receiver. The sound is incredible. I just sit back and savor the listening experience.
