DMC-LX3 filters I'm probably old-fashioned, but not having a UV filter on a camera lens (not so much for the UV filtering as for the piece-of-glass-in-front-of-the-lens feature) freaks me out a little. There are several filter kits purportedly for the DMC-LX3, but looking at the camera I don't see how they'd attach to it. The lens bezel looks threaded, but its shape doesn't seem conducive to actually holding things onto the camera.
Does anybody know (A) whether any of the filter kits are non-junk and (B) how they mechanically fit the camera?
In order to use a filter (UV or otherwise) with the LX3, you need to purchase and attach a Panasonic DMW-LA4 Conversion Adapter first. This does add a little additional bulk to the camera, but it is nice to have on the camera to protect the lens anyway. I generally keep it on the LX3 with some kind of filter (WC Protector, ND, UV, or Circular Polarizing). You also need this conversion adapter to use the Wide Angle Conversion Lens (which I love to use). The filters required for the adapter are 46mm (which are rare, especially in stores) and the Wide Angle Conversion Lens does not take a filter. Panasonic sells all of the above-mentioned filters, and you can purchase other brand filters in a range of qualities from lower-end filters by Tiffen to higher-end filters by Heliopan.
