I'm a designer who creates counted cross stitch patterns. I stock every color of DMC embroidery floss and was looking for a better and more space saving way to organize my stock of floss. I ordered 4 of the DMC floss organizers so I would have enough pockets for all 454 colors of DMC floss, assuming the pockets where large enough to hold at least 2 skeins of floss each. I found the pockets were very small and wouldn't hold the quantity necessary. I decided if I used the DMC floss bobbins, I could at lease make a "swatch" of each color by wrapping the bobbins with 1 layer of each color. This took just over a yard per bobbin but my thought was that it would help me choose colors for my projects and the organizers wouldn't be a total loss.

Now comes the worst part! The DMC organizers are made in China and the workmanship is of an extremely poor quality, this workmanship cannot be observed from the tiny picture shown in the ads or by the way the product is folded and sealed in it's package. One must open the package and unfold the organizer to observe the workmanship. The pockets are separated by rows of stitching forming columns of pockets. In itself, this is a good idea but the problem is that the stitching is uneven making some of the pockets "very" narrow and others too wide. I had trouble slipping a bobbin containing only "1 layer of floss" in and out of many of the pockets, some pockets were so narrow even an empty bobbin is difficult to slip in. The workmanship is so poor the organizers don't deserve to carry the DMC brand name. I thought about selling them but would not want to burden someone else with this poor quality. Then I thought about cutting my losses and giving them away but again, I wouldn't want to burden someone else with this poor quality. At this point I am considering sending them directly the DMC importer in the United States with a letter similiar to this one so they can see for themselves the quality of merchandise which is carrying their DMC name, a name which has been associated with quality worldwide.

What a wonderful discovery! Finally a way to organize my floss that makes it easy to see and find just the color I need. I used the DMC color chart to organize my numbered bobbins. That way they are in color families and it is simple to keep track of what I have and what I need to purchase before starting a project. This will help me to avoid purchasing duplicates of colors I already have which I have done in the past. I plan to hang them (I bought 2!) on removable plastic hooks in the back of my clothes closet behind my clothes. The colors will not fade and they will not take up space used for anything else.

This storage system is fabulous. The concept is that you purchase cardboard bobbins, wind the floss around the bobbin and tuck it into the tiny pouch. Why bother? I have 125 skeins of floss and literally just fold them in half and slip them into the tiny pouch. Spools of metallic threads pop into the larger pouches on the bottom. I attached a "Command" hook onto the back of my closet door and this hangs on my own clothing hanger on the hook out of the way. When I need a skein of floss, it is easily visible. So much easier to use than a plastic box or the plastic "baseball card" sleeves in binder storage system. No winding around a cardboard/plastic bobbin necessary. Sturdy and clear pouches. As far as I am concerned, a must for needlepoint fans.

I got this as a gift for a young lady who is a master at the DMC Floss bracelets. But she needed to get organized. This was Perfect!! The only down side was that the material pattern on the back of it was a pretty awful looking pattern!! At least it is against the door and the important side is what she sees!

I use this to hold all my thread for when I cross stitch. It makes it so easy to organize everything and is so flat that it fits easily into my closet without taking up room. Unfortunately it comes with no way to actually hang it on a door even though it says it's a door hanging storage system.

It is way bigger than I thought it would be. I bought it to store jewelry and it works great. It does not come with a hanger.
