Gets the Job Done,
This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I ordered this for my fiance and he loves it. He has sharpened every knife in our house and at his parents. It doesn't look like much, but it definitely puts a sharp edge on any blade.
I ordered this particular one because it is sort of an all purpose, everday sharpener but even though it is only rated fine it still removes small nicks. We are going to buy the DMT ceramic extra-fine sharpener (white handle) too, so he can refine the edges even more. This was kind of a throw away gift that turned into the best christmas gift of the year for him. I couldn't find any reviews for this product anywhere else, so I hope that this one is helpful.

My dad told me he wanted THIS EXACT SHARPENER for Christmas; so of course I got it for him. He wanted ONE sharpener for ALL his kitchen knives, smooth edged and serrated, his Swiss Army pocket knife, and anything else he could find to sharpen... maybe his chainsaw and lawn mower too, I don't know. Now when I visit him, his knives are perfectly sharpened. He likes the fine grit as opposed to the very fine or medium, and he loves how it opens and closes, and how it handles when open and in use. I wouldn't be surprised if he sleeps with it. He actually let me use it once (oooooh!) to sharpen a big, fancy Spiderco knife I have, and it's just as perfect as he says it is. Maybe I'll make him buy me one for Christmas this year.

hone,
This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've had this thing for many years now. When you're on the fly and don't have time to break out the stone to "sharpen" your knife, open this thing up, and perform a quick "hone" to realign the blade edge. Notice the difference. When it comes to pocket knives, I can sharpen them up pretty good with a dual composite stone. I also have a longer steel for the kitchen knives which I utilize to hone prior to each use. If the knife is of good quality, I'll take it in for professional sharpening. There is a big difference between sharpening and honing. Sharpening remakes the blade's edge. Honing takes that edges imperfections out or realigns the folded over or flat spots. Pull any knife out of your kitcnen drawer, look straight on at the edge, and you'll see light reflecting off of the imperfections, unless you hone prior to putting it away. My opinion, knives banging against each other in a drawer messes them up. That's why I hone prior to use.

A fine sharpener for serrated & normal blades,

The DMT Fine Diamond Serrated Knife Sharpener is useful in the right hands. It comes packaged with instructions on how to sharpen serrated blades. However if you have never sharpened a blade before, I'd suggest practicing on a "lesser" knife rather than pull out the best in the drawer.
The sharpening portion is reasonably long at 4.5" and tapers to allow for different sized serrations. It does have a lightweight feel, but this should not be taken for flimsy. The item folds into its handle for packing or storage in a tool box. If you were to get one sharpener - this might be it b/c you can sharpen normal blades on this as well as serrated ones. For your complete honing needs, I'd first recommend the DMT FWFC Double-Sided Diafold Diamond Whetstone Sharpener Fine / Coarse to bring a damaged edge into line (removing nicks & surface variations) then finishing with the DMT FWEF Double Sided Diafold® Diamond Whetstone Sharpener Fine / Extra-Fine for a very sharp, smooth finish.

Works like a charm,
By Cabo Sailor (Tarpon Springs, FL) - See all my reviews

As a sailor and a geologist I ALWAYS carry a pocket knife. Many of my knives are partially serrated for cutting lines and can be difficult to keep sharp. A dull knife is dangerous. The tapered cone shape of this sharpener fit the serrations of various blades extremely well. Being diamond impregnated it is capable of removing a lot of metal, very, very quickly so unless you're sharpening broad swords the fine grit will do for most blades and even then, light pressure only. It is very quick to use and with a little practice you will be able to touch up a knife in a matter of seconds. I have been quite pleased with product and in fact I also own the DMT diamond impregnated steel plates in coarse, fine, and ultra-fine for my kitchen knives.

"Fine" is COARSE in my opinion try Extra Fine first?,

This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
Have several good sharpening systems for kitchen knives and pocket collection ($100++ ea). All my knives are kept very sharp as in shave your arm, cut paper, whatever.
Bought this one just for serrated which are still sharp form original purchase. They stay sharp a long time, much longee than straight edge blades IMHO. Without knowing what "fine" or "extra fine" meant with this brand sorry I did not order extra fine or even extra extra fine if it exists. This "fine" grade leaves obvious scratches across the steel and the edge looks like a saw edge more than a smooth sharp edge which they already have. A minor note: The plastic handle is strong and functional but it snaps in and out when opened or closed in a awkward way. Perhaps it will smooth out when the knotch edges wear a little. Quality is good but the fine is pretty coarse in my opinion.

Works well but lost it's grit relatively quickly,
This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this sharpener to let me re-sharpen the serrated edges on my knives. After working through 2 knives (just the serrated edges) it already began to lose it's grit. I must admit, I was expecting a little more from this sharpener but it is still putting good edges on my serrated knives. We'll see how it holds up after a few more sharpens.

Great for serrated blades,

This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I picked this up to sharpen a bread knife, as well as a couple of serrated folding knives.
The taper works great, allowing you to work the right spot on the rod based on the size of the serrations. When finished, I also use it to lap the back of the blade at a very very slight angle (nearly flat) to debur any leftover shavings. I can see where people complain about the plastic handle feeling cheap - it does. However, it does not get in the way of using the tool. The fact that you can fold the handles over to protect the diamond is a plus, and I prefer that over a more solid fixed handle. I definitely recommend it. My only reason for giving it four stars is that I feel it should be a little less expensive. At ~$25 per sharpener, it makes buying the whole set a rather expensive proposition.

Convenient Portable Serrated Knife Sharpener,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
This DMT Diafold Sharpener is a good tool that comes in a convenient package. As other people have stated before in thier reviews, the folding plastic handle does feel thin and reletively flimsy, but I do get the impression that it will stay intact for some time if treated with care. This is my first sharperner specifically for sharpening the serrated areas of my knives. It works well and didn't take long to perform the technique properly. I wish the file/sharpener was a little longer with a more gradual taper, or if they made it with more than one file/sharpener that was a different taper or thickness. Other than those suggestions for improvement, this product works great.

Fantastic and quick,
By
This review is from: DMT FSKF Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener - Fine (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this to sharpen our serrated knives, which it did quickly and exceedingly well, but if you have a reasonably steady hand you can also use it to hone the rest of your kitchen blades and pocket knives. It's sort of finicky for smaller serrations where you can only use the very tip of the sharpener rather than using a continuous draw along the length of it, but that is an inherent problem tied to its increased utility for a variety of knives, not one of manufacture. With diamond stones like this, even intimidatingly large nicks and warping are gone in no time. Completely worth the price if you value your cutlery.
