This is a great product. I had some good knives that hadn't been sharpened in 5-6 years. They had been getting progressively duller. There was a huge contrast between these older dull knives and my recently-purchased knives. But this DMT stone, combined with a finer grit DMT stone, got them back to sharpness quickly. I highly recommend the use of the coarse stone for knives that are pretty dull. It made all the difference in the world.

DMT is a nice whetstone. They are color coded by grit. This coarse grit is best for working on a really blunted edge, the finer grits for a finished edge. I usually get a edge on the Tormec wet grinder, then strop the burr with a fine grit DMT. Makes for a razor sharp knife. I reccomend buying several of these diamond stones in various grits.

i am a novice when it comes to knife sharpening, but I have found that these stones are very easy to use and effective. I used the coarse stone to sharpen my machete and some garden tools and then followed this with another couple of stones and the results were great.

The stone wasn't quite what I expected. It was plastic and light and not as 'special-looking' as I thought it would be. Initially, I was disappointed as it was a gift, but the results speak for themselves and I can't complain about that.

This diamond stone is exactly what it's advertised to be. It does the job. Not much else to say.

If you like keeping your knives and tools sharp without much effort this is the stone for you. I have the fine stone and it does a great job but takes longer to achieve what I need.

the 6" dmt w/course grit will put an excellent edge on any dull knife.it's a great product that is made in the U.S.A.I would recommend it to anyone.

I purchased and received this coarse "stone" and the fine version of it. After sharpening just one set of hair clipper blades on this one and the fine one, they both seamed to have lost their grit. I contacted DMT, they said to clean them with kitchen cleanser and a scrub brush. That helped, but they still are not as gritty as the first few uses. I think for knives these are great, for heat treated steel hair trimmer blades not so much.

My kitchen knives were somewhat dull but useable. I bought this sharpener in coarse and extra fine. After doing over 100 strokes each side on each of the stones, the knives are only somewhat sharper. Could it be that they need to be professionally sharpened first? I believe I have the angle and technique right from watching videos.

The DMT Coarse Diamond Whetstone (W6CP) that I purchased wore out very quickly (within the first usage). I was trying to sharpen the two hardened steel blades from my garden shredder. At first it seemed to sharpen satisfactorily but within a few minutes of use I noticed a marked decrease until it was not effective at all. I tried to scrub the whetstone with a stiff plastic bristle brush, cleanser, and water per the manufacturer's directions but there was no improvement. I then tried to sharpen an ordinary carbon-steel kitchen knife. The whetstone was only barely effective and took many more strokes and much more time than expected to produce even a minimally sharp edge indicating not many diamonds remaining. On the manufacturer's web site under "Easy Care and Usage" they state that during the "Break-in period ... Initially your diamond stone will seem especially rough. It will smooth over time with gentle stroking without impacting performance. You need not exert extra pressure - let the diamonds do the work! ... Use only light pressure when sharpening." My experience indicates that this break-in period is the only time when it was effective. I believe that a significant number, and probably the majority, of the diamonds became dislodged from the nickel plating and were lost. Apparently the user must apply only VERY gentle pressure to reduce this but will still see degradation in roughness (i.e., effective cutting) early on. I made my case to DMT Customer Service who offered to send me a replacement but I never received it. Subsequent emails to customer service have been ignored. I would not recommend this DMT product.
