Best DMZ TPB Yet!,
By
This review is from: DMZ Vol. 4: Friendly Fire (Paperback)
The book consists of different takes of a bloody event taken place in DMZ. If you haven't read any DMZ before, you can still jump in and enjoy this volume. Different artists that worked on this volume are also amazing to clearly show different POVs.
Check it out!

Excellent comic series, excellent installment,
This review is from: DMZ Vol. 4: Friendly Fire (Paperback)
I can't really say that this book is getting better and better, because Volume 2 (Body of a Journalist) was probably better... but man, this is good stuff! It's a fast read, extremely relevant, fairly stand-alone, and one of the few books I'm recommending whole-heartedly lately.

This has fasr become one of my favorite comic series. It's right up there with Y The Last Man and Fables. This volume in particular brings the realities of war to a harsh and bitter light. It will make you question where you stand on war and politics and justice.

Absolutely incredible addition to the series. Woods' writing has gone to a new level and per usual the artwork is tight, gritty and immersing. To use a cliche, DMZ continues to pull no punches: War Is Hell. It's hard to find any work that has more wholly walked so satisfyingly away from sentimentality, even when it comes to the horrors of war.Who is innocent? Is anyone? Who doesn't have blood on their hands, just, unjust, in between? The confusion and complexities of war, especially a civil one involving the violent American spirit haven't been portrayed this accurately anywhere else. This is the kind of work that shows that any medium, from film to graphic novel, is capable of a powerful message and a story that needs to be told. Highly recommended to everyone. Especially Americans.

2nd best, but the gap is huge,

The main chunk of this volume is alright. Is centers more on specific people's recollection on one bloody incident, which reflects Vol. 1's main appeal. Unfortunately, it all ends with a Deus Ex Machina of the military type, out of our protagonist's hands. This plot device might be attractive to some, but for those that want an ending that doesn't seem forced or cheap, this is not for you.
the real gem is the final issue in the volume; a solitary tale that stand up higher and more solid than the rest of the issue. It works really well with the addition of a new artist to breath life into these fastly-staleing charaters and story. Borrow from a friend; do not buy.

I agree with Benjamin...,

The ending was predictable ("forced" and "cheap") and the writers "failed" for the first time. The first three volumes in the series were very impressive because each one pushed the boundaries without falling into the all too common bash the Man genre. Volume 4 felt less thoughtful than previous efforts and like stated before, predictable. The series has set such high standards that it was bound to miss the mark sooner or later.

The continuing story of Matty Roth and others in in the DMZ in another great volume covering some the earlier events in the DMZ.
