Jason Jennings, NY Times Bestselling Author of, It s Not The Big That Eat The Small-It s The Fast That Eat The Slow and The Reinventors --Jason Jennings, NY Times Bestselling Author

Now I can retire in peace. Kevin Kelly has written the book I always wanted to write. And he's done to the point of perfection--call it xceptional execution. Even the all-time best title: Do! Ah, Kevin, what a gift! Tom Peters Co-author of the international best seller "In Search of Excellence" the book that changed the way the world does business. --Tom Peters International best selling Author

"In this remarkable book, Kevin Kelly skillfully proves it's not the brilliant idea, but instead, the shining ability to execute simple plans that belies the greatest business success stories of our time. Read this book if you want to Do the great thing, and not just dream about it." Tim Sanders, author of NYT Best Seller Love is the Killer App and former Chief Solutions Officer at Yahoo! --Tim Sanders, NYT Best Selling Author

From the Author

I have always been fascinated by what makes people and organisations perform at the highest level. Upon initially discovering academic research studies that showed 88% of company breakthroughs were the result of exceptional execution of an ordinary idea, I decided to  single-mindedly explore this remarkably simple idea. Why? Because it pointed to something I have believed all my life - success in life belongs to those who do, who execute. But of course it wasn't just a case of doing anything, but rather a matter of executing underpinned by strong self awareness and a deep understanding of the market in which we operate. I have called this "xceptional execution."

Inspirational, informational and challenging - that is how I would describe this book from Kevin Kelly. From the very first chapter, you are hooked when you read about the confessions of an idea killer. Kevin highlights just how easy it easy to find enough reasons not to pursue your idea - for the rest of the book he proves why and how you can make that breakthrough from passion and an ordinary idea to a profitable business. He draws on best practice from around the world with his in depth interviews with "xceptional companies" as he describes them - Outfit7 the creators of Talking Tom, Dwolla who will take credit cards out of our pockets forever, Balsamiq, Globant and others. We see how they dealt with a subject most books don't cover, but we entrepreneurs are challenged by - fear, and fear of failure. Drawing on his own background in as he says "breaking sales records" he shows in an attention deficit society, a focus on delivering quality attention is the key to customer loyalty and an engaged workforce. On a more serious but amusing level it is hard to believe a goldfish has a better attention span than a human being! In summary for the $10 investment, I love this book and most definitely it is awash with practical ideas that will help build my business. It is very obvious why the likes of Tom Peters endorsed it. Congratulations and thanks Kevin."

Mr Kelly's presentation this week of the subject matter in this concise book was just great. I bought it immediately thereafter. We once again visit what we all think we know about (Self) Awareness and Attention and then back it up with behavioural science. Who knew that an average person's attention span is actually less than a goldfish's? Mr Kelly likewise puts forth the importance of authenticity and the difference between business "relationships" and business freindships.

Filter bubble

We are always on the look out for European business authors. Still most business authors are American. Which is interesting in a world that is supposed to be globalised. Maybe we have created our own filter bubble. There must be some excellent business authors from China, India, Brazil, Russia, and we would be much obliged for any suggestions. Contact us at ron@bookbuzz.biz.

Irish business authors

Let alone finding Irish authors. Could you name any management guru from Ireland? After some searching Charles Handy comes to mind. Charles Handy is superb and like Drucker, timeless in his thinking. We are going to try to get him speak at our alternate MBA in a day in February 2015. A day so sharp, it will make you bleed (mentally).

Kevin Kelly

Came across Kevin Kelly recently with DO! The pursuit of xceptional execution. Then realised he was Irish and I had seen him speak at an SFA conference a few years ago. I remember that day vividly. Not only because of Kevin’s talk but because of another speaker that day, Gerry Duffy, where he talked about his 10 marathons in 10 days. The summary of the talk; You live only once, why be mediocre?

Xceptional businesses

Which fits exactly with Kevin's book. He talks about the Xceptionalists. About the importance of doing. Not business planning. Not vision. Not ideas. Doing! Like Seth Godin’s instigation capital or the importance of movement in “The obstacle is the way”. About the importance self awareness, of doing things well and with full attention.

Full attention

Full attention is very interesting. He gives you a number. 341005003056555641289. Daily we consume 34 Gigabyte of information. That is 100500 words every day.

Kevin Kelly does an excellent job of examining a number of successful startups in various industries and highlighting how their exceptional execution made them successful. He admonishes readers that entrepreneurs don't need to have a completely new business plan to be successful, but if they can execute even a common idea in an uncommon way, they can find success.

Do! is a bestseller and is going to become one of the must reads for anyone in business. The book is a stand out and is especially helpful for anyone who has started a business or who is thinking about starting a business. This is one of those books to keep by your side so that you can read it over and over again. This book is one of the very few that sits you back down and makes you think again - test your assumptions and inspire you to create, to set a higher standard and ultimately gives you create ideas and tools to be successful in business. I love the way it takes on both high level strategic concepts as well as very practical steps that you can use on a day to day basis. It moves at fast pace - almost similar to a start-up. The best part of this book is the way it challenges you to think differently and then DO! Get out of planning mode fast and into the doing mode. As a start-up I read this again and again to help my company stay on track. Looking forward to attending one of Kevins' courses in the near future.

I Read Kevin Kelly's earlier best seller 'How When You Don't Know How' when I started my first company and I have bought many copies for friends over the years as I consider it to be one of the most accessible and effective books in the self development market - so I was looking forward to reading 'Do!' having heard great reviews and it has certainly lived up to expectations. Again, this book is very accessible and the emphasis on excellent execution rather than waiting for the next brilliant idea, is a very empowering approach. The sections on friendships / relationships and magnetic attraction certainly resonate with me. I can highly recommend this book. The only downside is that I couldn't find it available as an audiobook.
