Excellent quality from top to bottom. Well built and attractive, color matches my iMac. I use this for time machine backups. Runs cool, very quiet (no noisy fan). The firewire 800 backed up 150gb of data in 45 minutes. I'd buy this enclosure again.

An excellent case... silent, well built. Only consideration versus others is that this case has an external power brick, and in some applications it is more convenient to have the power supply in the case. However, this design with a power brick is cooler without requiring a fan. Spring loaded pop-out feet are a neat design touch.

I've used these enclosures for several years now. They are a notch above the typical aluminum enclosures. Well built, they cool better when used vertically. The ability to slide drives in and out is one of the major benefits to these.Easy to recommend.

Ok, I just bought this thing and put a 2TB harddrive in it. I copied about 1.5TB of files over to it first thing with no problems. That is the only positive. Here are my negatives: - You can't swap harddrives in and out quickly, you need a screwdriver and to mess with 6 screws. - It relies on a big power brick and is very plasticy / cheap feeling. - I would be easily willing to overlook those faults if it didn't SHUT OFF randomly. The thing works until I do heavy editing in Final Cut Pro, then at completely random times, it decides to just shut off. It's good for transferring files that you won't access often, but other than that, it's completely useless to me.

Previous review changed. This died before reaching age 1 year. Icy Dock have proved simple to use (have owned several different docks) but unfortunately the quality of build seems generally to be low. They all seem to faulter after a while. Will most likely go a different route next time around.--- Does exactly what I want - make changing all those SATA drives I have lying around very easy. It using the FireWire 800 is also superfast. The only thing I can criticise is that it feels a little cheap - a little plasticy. |
