4.0 out of 5 stars Good book .. but nigh identical Chilton manual is better.
I have always bought Haynes manuals for every car I've owned. In addition to getting this manual from Amazon, I also checked the Chilton manual out of my local library. To my amazement, they were the same book. I didn't know one company had bought the other. Pictures and text were identical. Layout in the Chilton manual was better in that it was easier to find and...

This repair manual is exactly the same as the Haynes manual also offered by Amazon. The Haynes manual is cheaper. I ordered both and was quite disappointed since I was hoping to get two different views and different pictures on how to repair the car. Instead, I got the shock of receiving two of the same book being sold under different names.

To my amazement, they were the same book. I didn't know one company had bought the other. Pictures and text were identical. Layout in the Chilton manual was better in that it was easier to find and read information quickly.

So I guess for my next car I'll be going with a Chilton book, even though the content will be the same.

I just finished doing a timing belt job along with the water pump and this manual is absolutely terrible. Their instructions to get to the timing belt are just flat out wrong. They skip removing the plate that goes over the outer timing belt cover and connects into the mount and they never provide the torque values for the three bolts that hold it on. They also tell you to remove the engine mount and the mount bracket. Doing that is a waste of time since you still can't get the mount out and all you really need to do is jack the engine up a lot. There are many other repairs that they just skip details on or just have the flat out wrong info. Another example would be they tell you one year battery tray is held on by 4 bolts instead of 5....wrong! My 2000 had the fifth bolt that was kind of hidden so I bent the battery tray at first (not that big a deal but the point is I paid for correct info). The procedure they give you to balance the engine on the mounts with the torque struts is also wrong. Their instruction were physically impossible on my car. The measurement they gave must be wrong.
To sum it up, don't rely on this book for any repair. It might give you some ideas about how to fix stuff but you may end up in the middle of a repair totally confused and very mad!

This book has helped with my brakes and oil changes. If I switch vehicles I'd definitely pick up another one of these manuals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool, July 28, 2008
This review is from: DODGE NEON 2000-2003 (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback)
Great Book Very helpful for the do-it-yourself person. Wish it published how much fluids the car holds. That would be helpful for changing oil etc. the owners manual probably contains that info, but I purchased my car used without manual. I personally like the Haynes manuals better than other brands.
