Good case if your priority is asthetics.,

The case looks great. If that is what you're looking for then you will love this case. If you are looking for functionality you might find yourself wanting. The case does work as a stand, however, it is designed to look like a book. Take a hard cover book and bend it over backwards to stand it up. How easy is it for the edge of the cover to slip and cause the book to fall flat on the table? Same with the case. I can get the case to stand up on it's own but if I touch the iPad it falls. It works great if you have something behind it to stop it from sliding.

Love the product but...,

After looking into the plethora of cases out in the market for the iPad 2, I finally decided on the dodocase. I've had the case for several weeks and have gotten a lot of compliments on it from classmates. I've been pleased with the product but now am beginning to question its effectiveness, reliability and it's integrity.I have recently began to notice small tiny tears of the red cover on the spine when the case is flipped. This could be due to the stretching of the fibers but you'd think this wouldn't, occur since its the primary method of using it to type with. Secondly, I've notice that my pad no longer sits snug into the bamboo encase ment. The bumpers provided do not have a substantial life span; they tend to sink into the groove on the bamboo causing the iPad to lose contact with them allowing the pad to easily fall out without hesitation. Pretty much, in other words, it loses it's grip on the iPad. While these are minute details, these are details that make me reconsider if the cost of $60 is really worth the quality of the product. With having this product for only several weeks and to not see it holdup to the potential the dodocase website states, I questions whether I soon will be in search once again for a more reliable case that will hold my pad in place while adding the much needed protection we require for such a delicate product. 2/5 update... Lowered rating from 4 stars to 2. Since I first purchased my case about 5 months ago, I have had two replacements; I'm now on my third. The reason? The bamboo encase ment is poor quality. On both of my cases, the bamboo has split. After e-mailing customer service, their response was something to the effect of them being fragile. If you keep it in a book bag or something of some sort, these things will happen is What they said. They've been very good at replacing it, although, before replacing it the second time, they suggested using glue to fix the issue. I mean that is a fix, but a cheap fix at the cost of a $60 product. All in all the case is beautiful and unique. Unless someone starts to market a protection case for your dodo, don't expect this thing to last. In the meantime, Im on the search for a new case.

Does what every other case does, but w/ style!,
This review is from: DODOcase for iPad 2 (Red) (Personal Computers)
This case does what any case purports - protects your $500+ tablet from dings/scratches. Where it differentiates, and why I bought one, was because of how cool it looks.Style: I just love the idea of taking a sophisticated mini-computer like the iPad and wrapping it up in what looks and feels like an hardcover book. When you hold the DODOcase, you immediately notice that it feels handmade. Not the case (pun intended) when comparing against most others on the market, especially those offered for sale in the Apple Store. Functionality: Easy to take it out and put it in, though I hardly ever use it 'naked' anymore. Really love that you can open it all the way to slant the iPad for typing, or can open it halfway to prop up for watching videos. Summary: Get one. It makes holding an iPad fun, and certainly sets you apart from all those other people who wrap their iPads in generic, boring cases.

An elegant case,

These handmade cases really pay an old world, almost anachronistic tribute to something so sleek and modern like the iPad 2. I found the design and constuction taut and precise. The edges are encased in bamboo. The rubber bumpers firmly secure the iPad 2 with a decent but forgiving grip. The iPad 2 body fits recessed in the case so that the case bears some protection against being compressed or crushed in backpack by other books, a feature which many skin style or clip on cases do not do.The book name plate is a brilliant homage to the hardcover treasures one keeps in their permanent collection. And having a nameplate makes it easy to identify your iPad without a clumsy labeler. I found the Dodocase extremely practical. It hides stealthily from would-be thieves in the real world environment by blending in with other books. It also blends in nicely at business meetings and formal occasions. The ports and buttons are easy to access and are recessed so that bumps and scrapes will not mar the iPad. The hardcover fold back out of the way and it provides a slight natural incline to type in landscape format. Another benefit of the hardcover is the ability to shade some of the indirect light and glare from the iPad 2 when you need it. It is a well designed product and a nice keepsake to protect the iPad.

Nice but has drawbacks,
This review is from: DODOcase for iPad 2 (Red) (Personal Computers)
The Dodo is a handsome case, but has some drawbacks. #1. It's very cumbersome getting the Ipad "out" of the case everytime you want to use the camera feature because there's no lens hole on the back of the case like most models. #2 It doesn't really stand very securely or lock in place on a hard surface if you want to view it upright for a movie, etc. Lastly, for typing mode, it creates a very minimal angle, almost flat. For the price, I need those features.

The corners are weak, they crack easily. Like a fighter with a glass jaw. I have gone through two tubes of super glue trying to mend broken corners. It is a nice looking case, but the weak corners are a deal breaker.

This is a fantastic case; it's truly beautiful, and provides excellent functional protection. Also, a big plus is it doesn't advertise that you are carrying around an Ipad which could be an open invitation to a would be thief.I noticed in some of the reviews people are not happy with the typing position, but I find it very adequate. I will open it and fold the back over to type on; and will also prop it up on a solid surface to watch videos or type with a blue tooth keyboard. It basically is like a book; it does not give the same positioning options as some of the other cases but makes up for it in quality. The only downside I can think of is that you need to remove the Ipad from the case to use the camera. A few weeks ago I noticed that the bamboo frame at top of the case had 2 hair line cracks. The case had been treated gently and the Ipad still stayed securely in the frame, but I was worried that it would eventually fail so I wrote to the customer service folks at Dodocase. They immediately responded asked for photos. After reviewing the photos, they sent me a new case and only asked that I destroy the old one. Although the first case needed to be replaced, this is obviously a quality product and the company stands by it. I will buy cases for my family and friends as gifts this season; I highly recommend both the product and the company.

Nice idea - but it doesn't work...,
By Dennis Russo (Garden City, NY USA) - See all my reviews

I first purchased my dodo case when they were first released for my iPad 1. What I really like about it was it's ease of use to insert and remove the iPad as, when I'm at my desk, I like to keep it in an iPad cradle. For the first month that I owned it, it was great. I loved the look and feel of it; it really made the iPad seem like a big moleskin notebook. Unfortunately, after about a month, the wood started to warp. So much so that the wood has actually lifted off the cover, exposing the glue. It's now completely unusable as when the iPad sits in it, the warped wood doesn't secure the corners and the device can easily fall out. It's a shame as I really wanted to like this case.

Poor Build Quality, but it looks cool,

I've owned this case for 2 months and I have to say, I'm rather disappointed. The gummy nubs that hold the iPad in place don't hold their stickiness through more than 4 applications/removals, so forget holding the pad over your head while lying down. The wood is bamboo, but it isn't sealed, so splintering is an issue. And the glue for the paper dissolved after less than a week in a humid environment. Overall, I'm very, very disappointed in the build quality.I will say, the case does look pretty good and was exactly what I was looking for, however I'm incredibly disappointed that it started to fall apart after just 2 months

DO NOT BUY! Fundamental design error = wasted money.,

This review is from: DODOcase for iPad 2 (Red) (Personal Computers)
Seriously. Don't buy this. You'll be mad you spent so much money on this poorly designed case when there are so many cases that actually last. I've had two and BOTH of them broke within two months. The first one I bought and the corners that hold the iPad2 in the case immediately broke off. I contacted the company (who were, admittedly, very nice) and they sent me a new one. However, within a month or two THE SAME THING happened! I've tried to glue them repeatedly but they just keep snapping off. I am pretty gentle with my case (just class and home) and have never dropped it, but the whole point of a big, heavy case for your iPad is that you don't have to handle it with kid gloves. It's a classy looking case, but unfortunately it just really doesn't work. Keep looking. |
