From School Library Journal
Pole-vaulter Barry seriously injures his back and lies in a hospital bed for weeks, immobile and bitter. His relentlessly cheerful girlfriend Roseanne finally gets mad at his self-pity and stomps out. This naturally causes him to stagger to the therapy room 12 pages from the end of the book. Melodramatic is too mild an adjective for all this, but in spite of its excesses, the book doesn't drag in the plot and subplot department, and writing is fairly smooth.
