4.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, Needs a Little Tweaking for me though
I've never seen bifocal safety glasses before and liked the idea. It was a huge shock to glance at the tape measure and be able to read it without straining. They work great. My only issue is that, in my opinion, the magnified portion could be a little smaller. When in use, I find myself trying to slide them down slightly so that I'm not looking through the line between...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great idea poor execution
The basic idea of adding the bifocal lens to the glases is good and useful. However, in these glasses, the bifocal lens takes up way too much vertical field of view, so you are constantly looking through the bifocals when you don't want to, producing a slight blur to your vision. Consequently you find yourself making little 'adjustments' frequently - shifting your view...

5.0 out of 5 stars Makita bifocal glasses, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Dewalt DPG59-220C Reinforcer Rx-Bifocal 2.0 Smoke Lens High Performance Protective Safety Glasses with Rubber Temples and Protective Eyeglass Sleeve (Tools & Home Improvement)
this is an excellent product. I actually use them bicycling so I can read the map and the bike computer.I bought them in smoke and clear and use the clear on cloudy days. They are a tiny bit large for my head and I have a slightly larger than average head. So if you have a small head they may be too big for you.

Consequently you find yourself making little 'adjustments' frequently - shifting your view up or down. After a while this is a pain in the neck.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't Meet Safety Standards?, June 2, 2010

This review is from: Dewalt DPG59-220C Reinforcer Rx-Bifocal 2.0 Smoke Lens High Performance Protective Safety Glasses with Rubber Temples and Protective Eyeglass Sleeve (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a contact lens wearer I've become a fan of protective eyewear with built-in bifocal lenses (MSA Safety Works 10061646 Bifocal Safety Glasses, 2.0 Diopeter). These were a nice discovery in a sunglass since they have UV protection and I liked the design. The tint is effective in bright sunlight but not too dark.

Their effectiveness as "protective safety glasses" is questionable. The lenses are marked for the diopter but not for any safety standard such as ANSI or OSHA, kind of surprising considering the Dewalt brand. I dropped them once and the lens scratched much too easily in my opinion, adding to my concern about lens quality.

They are fairly comfortable for me, but the earpieces don't fit very securely; I find them easily knocked off. I like that the bifocal area of the lens is not visible from the front and the diopter seems as marked, but I wish the bifocal area was a bit lower & smaller; it interferes with my "normal" field of vision to the point where it's annoying.

I wouldn't count on them for serious protection since they don't meet any safety standards. I decided I prefer Stick On Bifocals (OPTX 20/20 Stick-On Bifocals, +2.00) on a pair of tinted MSA ANSI-compliant safety glasses over these. I think MSA safety glasses are better made and finished, more scratch resistant and fit me better.

4.0 out of 5 stars nose cushions fall off, May 16, 2007
Overall a good product. Bought 3 pair and they fit well, however, the nose pieces fall off and get lost. I put glue on them and they still get lost. They are not comfortable once the nose cushion is lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for outdoor reading, November 9, 2009
This review is from: Dewalt DPG59-220C Reinforcer Rx-Bifocal 2.0 Smoke Lens High Performance Protective Safety Glasses with Rubber Temples and Protective Eyeglass Sleeve (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you wear glasses or contacts or have to rely on reading glasses, there is nothing as frustrating as reading outdoors. These sunglasses were just what I needed on a recent beach vacation. I noticed that the bifocal section is an adhesive part and I expected to have problems with that but so far, so good. They are very comfortable to wear and they work great.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but distorted, June 26, 2010

The glasses are ok, but once I compared to other safety glasses, I realized they were a little distorted on the non-bifocal areas. It was ok, but they will be my backup from now on. Also, after 3 days of wearing, one of the nose guards fell off. I had ordered a clear pair, so I used one of those. Not the quality I would expect from Dewalt. They did look cool though.

3.0 out of 5 stars They work, June 14, 2010

They work, but a little different to get used too, as other glasses I have the reader portion is in a little different area
Also I ordered two pairs of 2.0's and they sent me one 1.5 and one 2.0, clearly marked on the lens, Can't say much for their Shipping clerk.

These glasses are a great idea; bifocals allow reading in the sun or viewing dash instruments while driving. But frames are quite large and do not stay on your head like Oakley's or other quality sunglasses.
