Verified Purchase
After thoroughly researching the DPMS Panther A-15 (made by Cybergun) I decided it would make a good starter gun for my son and I to get into airsoft. I was concerned when I received the first gun because the box didn't look right...it was unlike the boxes I had seen depicted on several websites including Cybergun's site. This box was mostly white with some red and some black on it. It had the correct item number (17920) though, and the specs on the box matched what I had purchased. Cool though...maybe a newer version of the gun...maybe even improved! We'll see. When I opened the box the magazine release was broken and the gun was completely useless. So much for newer or even improved.

After speaking with the seller, we agreed that they would replace the gun as it arrived defective. I shipped the first gun back to them and when the replacement arrived it looked to be in more or less one piece. After charging the battery my son and I went out back to zero the red dot site I had bought for the gun. We didn't get the job done because the gun was constantly mis-feeding even though the magazine was good to go and seated properly. Problems with the gun firing in full automatic when the selector switch was moved also dampened our experience. In short, after several attempts at trying to get gun #2 to work I contacted the seller again. After desribing the problems with the gun I was told that they had gotten a bad batch of guns from the manufacturer (Cybergun) and that several others had been returned. All had arrived in the (new) white/red/black box.

As I write this gun #2 is on the way back to the seller. I'll update this review after resolution of the problem. Make no mistake- this review should NOT be construed as negative toward the seller! Period.

This gun is prett good! It's definetely not a Tokyo Marui or Classic Army gun, but it is an excellent starter AEG. Alhtough the gun is mostly plastic, it is quite heavy and feels pretty sturdy. I've already put a few thousand rounds through it, and the internals seem pretty sturdy and reliable. The hopup is also easily adjusted. The gun DOES hit at around 260 fps (no more of the WELL/CYMA fps lies),and it does sting quite a bit to be hit. I consider this gun to be a better starter AEG than the SRC SR4 because it seems more reliable all around.

Now, for the bad things.... The gun itself is not an exact copy of the Tokyo Marui M16 or A15. This means that there are some parts missing. The first is the Charging lever bolt that opens/closes the dustcover. This is where the cartridges would come out in real life. The distcover does not stay closed, which can make the gun dirty and less reliable. THe major disadvantage is that the Panther DOES NOT accept Star ot Tokyo Marui magazines. I was really bummed because there are no fitting low cap mags for the A-15. All in all though, the gun is good for a first AEG or something better than a WELL gun.

Awsome gun! Very beautiful, and a true AEG and MUCH better than Well products which aren't even real AEGs. Just Mini's in disguise! This is a modern AEG and features the spring release system that many new AEGs feature! The description of this gun is wrong, first, it is a replica of the M773, goes 262 fps and has a magizine capacity of 200 rounds and not 300. It is a high cap which means no shaking and all you have to do is wind the gear on the bottom after filling the back of the mag! It could also use Marui Magazines and products since they also have a replica of the M773! And I think it was based off of marui guns, but feels like its spring couterpart!

Don't waste your money. This gun was given to me, brand new, as a gift. I'm pretty savvy with airsoft guns, and this thing is a waste of money. I would value it at about $40-50, brand new. Definitely not worth what they're charging.

Very cheap plastic construction
Hop-up unit is useless

Here's a tip in the airsoft world: quality is going to vary WIDELY on these low budget guns.
(JG, CYMA, KJW, KWC, AIM, Well, Double Eagle, A&K, Dboys) Yes, SOMETIMES you'll get a good one. And sometimes you'll get junk. You just don't KNOW. So don't risk it.

Save a little extra and invest in something that's going to last.. You should be fine investing in equipment from the following manufacturers: (G&G, G&P, ICS, KWA, Tokyo Marui, Classic Army)

Do your research on the guns from the good manufacturers, and forget about the others, no matter how COOL the gun looks in the picture.

This will save you a lot of frustration in the airsoft world. Hope this helps!
