This little guy is the coolest! He sometimes breathes a steady stream of steam, and sometimes emits large intermittent puffs, depending on the temperature of the stove.
He has plenty of water capacity and comes with a measuring stick, which makes it easy to check his water level. Also included is a funnel to fill him. Very easy - no spilled water. If you are looking for a steamer that's a bit out of the ordinary and makes for an interesting conversation piece, you've found it. Grab him when he's available as he goes out off stock often. Always fun to watch!

If you heat with a wood stove, you know how dry the interior air can get in winter. So you fill up old tea kettles, pots, etc. and stick them on the top of your woodstove to raise the humidity level. This doesn't work any better than those other options, but it is a fun and more attractive way to handle this necessary task. The dragon is nice and fat, so he holds about a full tea kettle plus of water. He is actually entirely made of thick aluminum, not cast iron, meaning you aren't going to have rust problems with him.
The head comes off, revealing a little opening, and they give you an aluminum funnel that fits perfectly into the opening (meaning you can refill without taking the super hot metal back to the kitchen for water). It takes a little while to get going, but with a strong fire in the woodstove, he does start shooting steam out of his nostrils pretty vigorously. The tail adjusts as well, so you can move it one way or the other to make him look better sitting on top of the woodstove. One thing I like is that he will get calcium stains on his face just by the nostrils, but they are easy to wipe off. It doesn't make a mess as you use it. If you get it going really hard, some water might drip out of his nose, but it hits the neck of him and instantly evaporates, you never get water on the cast iron of the wood stove. Nobody really needs to own one of these, you could buy several electric humidifiers for what it costs and you already own an old pot that would do the same thing, but it is a lot more fun and entertaining than either of those options. He just looks good steaming away above the big glass door with a roaring fire underneath him. |
