Dreaming of the Dead Brings Inner Healing,
By pcoats@dreamtree.com (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The DREAM MESSENGER: How Dreams of the Departed Bring Healing Gifts (Hardcover)
Patricia Garfield's sixth book ,"The Dream Messenger (How Dreams of the Departed Bring Healing Gifts)" continues her tradition of exploring how dreams can function as tools for healing in our waking lives. The Dream Messenger focuses upon dreams of the dead -- identifying several components of such dream encounters, and providing techniques for integrating these dreams with bereavement and re-awakening to life after the loss of a loved one. Based on a study of hundreds of dreams of bereaved persons, as well as her own journals and the writings of other contemporary authors, Garfield brings a rich sense of shared emotion and human experience to the grieving process, and to the need toaffirm our continuing relationships with those who have died.

Classic research on dreams about the dead,
This review is from: The Dream Messenger: How Dreams of the Departed Bring Healing Gifts (Hardcover)
All of Patricia Garfield's books on dreams are wonderful, but this is perhaps the best of all. In this book, she has collected over 1000 dreams about the dead, from nightmares of open caskets, to wishful fantasies that it was a horrible misunderstanding, to dreams that lay open the question of communication from the other side. With potent sensitivity, the author stays out of our way, offering the research and the accounts in organized themes, without tampering with faith or belief systems. It is stunning to learn that so many of us who grieve have similar types of dreams, and that our dreams of the dead follow a predictable course, evolving over time and becoming less painful, more intriguing, and finally healing. I am constantly recommending this book to clients and students, and hear it has been a soothing focus and source of insight. If you are interested in dreams, or you are grieving, this book is a treasure. Give it to a friend. Give it to yourself.
